Well now that we have seen a show with the new mufflers what do you think? The times were fast, 14's. The racing was good, some races great. It is a different sound that we'll have to get used to. The only time it was really noticable to me was during time trials with one car on the track. They just don't sound like the 900 hp monsters that they are. I talked to some of the tracks nieghbors and they said they could definately notice a difference.

The new mufflers took that "edge" off the noise when they were running as hard as they could.
IMO, good move on several fronts.
1) Outlaws (and everyone else that races sprints (or Lates, or Mods, etc) should be able to have 1 muffler that they could run anywhere in the US and be legal for db reading (saves teams $$ by not having to have multiple mufflers/headers)
2) Knoxville Raceway is being PRO-Active instead of REactive when it comes to noise and potential complaints by neighbors (although living in Kville, I've never heard of anyone ever complaining to the city or county about the noise).
3) By being PRO-Active, the Raceway is showing a willingness to work with City and County Leaders (without being asked to work with them), which should help yield positive changes for fans/teams overall when the Raceway goes to the city/county asking for local law enforcement to "back off" writing tickets to golf carts, or making a golf cart path from the Marion County Park or the North Campgrounds to the Raceway so no one gets ticketed.
4) We can actually somewhat hear the announcers during the race for a change without being "blown away" by them when cars aren't on the track.
All in all a good change IMO. Cars are still plenty loud for the die-hards that think there shouldn't be any type of muffler on a racecar, but kills the sound being carried which makes for good neighbor/city relations (which in this day and age is what kills a lot of racetracks in a lot of towns across America). Heck, people sue airports for the noise and WIN even though the airport was there before they bought or built their house...

I honestly could not tell a difference! My daughter asked me why it did not seem like they were "on it" as hard as usual. Maybe the extra noise of the muffler was what was makiing her think that!!
