McGehee McWins NCRA Modified Opener at 81 Speedway!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – April 7, 2012 - Heavy overnight rains made for one heavy track and a high amount of attrition but for Wichita, Kansas driver Jason McGehee it was just fine with him as he kicked off the 2012 season for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified division by picking up his first career series victory Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City during the Ken Sweet Memorial.

2009 series champion Marc Hurd started on the pole for the thirty lap feature and got the jump on fellow outside front row starter Ryan McAninch as the green flag fell.

Hurd was in prime form, setting a torrid pace and withstanding several cautions that plagued the feature finale.

McAninch kept third starting McGehee behind him for the runner up position until he fell out with mechanical gremlins near the half way point.

Defending series champion Tyler Davis also had a strong run in the early going, challenging McAninch and McGehee for position before he came to a stop at the races midway point.

Back up front there seemed to be no catching Hurd as he continued with a half stretch lead. But with two laps to go his car seemed to sputter, lost power down the back straight away allowing McGehee and his Painting Concepts/SDG Racing Graphics/McGehee Shockley Racing sponsored ERC Race Car to take the lead.

McGehee would hold on the final lap to take his first career NCRA feature victory. "I think I just won the lottery!" he said in victory lane. "I knew all I had to do was just hold my line. This is a great win for team ERC chassis."

A.J. Brochu of Enid came home with a solid second place finish while Ken Sweet, Jr. had a run that would make his late father proud to finish third.

Former five-time series champion Brian Franz showed why he is the career series victory leader at 81 Speedway. After experiencing trouble in his heat race, Franz started dead last in the fifteen car "C" feature and worked his way up to a second place finish. He would then start 12th in the "B" feature where he finished fifth, earning himself with a fifteenth starting spot in the feature finale. The veteran Bills Built chassis driver kept the attrition away from him and in the end came home with a solid fourth place finish, just behind Sweet, Jr.

Former NCRA modified south series champion Mickey Lassiter of Piedmont, Oklahoma started his rookie campaign with the series premiere modified division on a solid note, rounding out the top five.

The four, ten lap heat races for the thirty-five car field were won by Heard, Robbie Simmons, Davis and McAninch. Bobby Bills took home "C" Feature honors while Ross Shipman wired the field in the "B" feature.

The next event for the NCRA of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products will be a huge Memorial Day weekend double header kicking off on Saturday night, May 26th at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. Then on Sunday night it is on to "The Hummer," Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kansas. More information on this huge weekend will be announced in the coming weeks.
