(Oxnard, CA 6-11-07)This Saturday night June 16, at 5:30pm Ventura Raceway will present a racing program that will appeal to all of its fan at its Ventura County Fairgrounds Facility just off the Ventura Freeway in Ventura California. That night will see the return of the IMCA Modifieds, VRA Dwarf Cars, Mini Dwarf Cars, Junior Midgets along with its ever popular VRA 360 Sprint Car Series.
VRA 360 Sprints will be led into the event by point leader Greg Taylor and last week’s first time VRA 360 Sprint Car winner Rick Hendrix. Hendrix will be going for two in a row after dominating the 30 lap feature last week. Other VRA Sprint stars scheduled to appear include VRA Rookie of the Year contender Johnathan Henry who had another great night finishing second to Hendrix last week, 2006 series Champion Luis Espinoza, Kevin Kierce, Chris Wakim, Steve Conrad, Eric Severson, Dennis Rodriguez and a host of others.
Also returning to racing this weekend will be our very popular IMCA Modified Class led by point leader Steve Smith. This class continues to grow as more as more drivers move into this class of open wheeled stock cars. Randy McGraw, Rick and Austin Rodarte, Jack Parker, Bill Waltman, Joe Weaver and many others will be here to resume their 2007 season point’s battle.
VRA Dwarf Cars also are making their return to competition Saturday night. Jim Scribelitto will lead the Pros and Ed Niedziecki will lead the Seniors as they return after a three week absence. These downsized sedans, coupes and truck bodied racers always provide exciting racing action for our fans.
The final groups racing this weekend will be junior Midgets and Mini Dwarf cars. These classes for young up and coming junior racers have proven very popular with our fans. Tyler Jerman is leading in the Mini Dwarf Car Supercharger Division and Rickie Lewis leads in the Piston Division. In Junior Midgets Jessica Clark leads Ramon Rivas by ten points going into this week’s action.
Thus will be the last VRA Car race for a couple of weeks as we stage the Eddie Mulder Flat Track Motorcycles on June 23, and then we will be dark for Fairgrounds activities on June 30 and July 7. VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars and our Kids Classes will then return to action on July 14, so be sure to come out this coming weekend to see your favorite drivers before they take break
Pit gates open at 3:00pm with junior racing getting under way at 3:30pm. Adult classes take to the track at 4:00pm for warm-ups with their racing getting under way at 5:30pm Admission to this event si $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors/military and juniors, $5.00 for kids 7-12 and kids 6 and under free.
