First of all Huset's Speedway is one of my favorite tracks so it was great to have Flat Out magazine do an in depth article/interview in the April issue with former Huset star Justin Henderson, now driving with the PA Posse.

The statement that really caught my attention was Justin saying that the only reason they could afford to go race with the Outlaws for two years was the "almost $700 per race night they received from the WoO". I don't know if it was a typo or what but it can't be possible can it, that the WoO pays each of its 12 to 16 contracted drivers that kind of money in addition to the purse. I've never heard about or read about a dollar figure given when "tow money" or other "expense money" was discussed and I've read a lot of magazines and visited this forum for years, but that amount doesn't seem possible.

Platinum teams receive 500 dollars + pit passes to sign into a one night show. 250 + pit passes for a preliminary or 2 day show from what I understand...

during the time period justin is talking about woo was paying more tow money. that $700 sounds about right. and you have to remember that justin's team was not a top team. i heard talk that at that time the top 5 teams were getting about $1000 per race for tow money. you have to remember that in 2006 when the NST started, the woo and NST were competing for teams and they both offered good tow money. as soon as the NST folded, the woo started cutting money.

if the NST could have stayed around for about 3-5 years it might have made a difference. the thing is, as soon as you go back to only one game in town, that game has no reason to cater to you any more or try to get your business. that is why in my opinion the tire rule of only having one brand takes all the price competition out of the tire deal. they don't have to work for your business.

same with woo being the only national touring 410 series, they don't have to work for the teams business. they could care less if you run with them as long as they have about 10 traveling teams. the less teams they have, the less expense it is to keep them.

believe me, most race teams that are even in a position to consider running at the national level know all that info.

any way, with the cost of diesel these days , the tow money they pay now doesn't even put a tank of fuel in the rig. you have to remember when justin was getting $700 a race, they were getting $700 each race night even if the race was in the same place for 2-3 nights in a row. also diesel was about $1.50 or so a gallon in most places.

back then when justin was running for dan the sonic man that team was the lowest budget team on the tour. i worked for rick wright at the time and i have a good idea of what it was costing rick to run the tour. believe me rick didn't have the money to spend that the top teams did and justin was spending half or less than what rick was. when justin told us what they were running the tour on we told him he was full of crap! lol. he told us he was dead serious, and i believe him because dan was tight with money. if it wasn't for the help from other teams with used tires and parts and feeding them now and then, that team would not have made it as far as they did. and everyone i knew was happy to help them because they were really nice people.

Actually these moneys are paid from the 25K fee the tracks pay the Outlaws for each event.

i don't recall anyone stating anything to contradict that.

actually when you get down to it, everything that is paid comes from the fans.

they are the ones that pay the ticket prices that pay the sanction fees, including any benefits to the teams, and the purse.

I think they paid $700 per race that year to entice guys to run w/ them and to get up to 15 full time guys so they could market the "Mean 15" as that was the year of the split.

It's now dropped down to $500, I think.

why would woo lowering the tow money over the past 5 years make ticket prices skyrocket?

nice for dennis to give the fans a "break" at the mini.

what are pit pass prices?

I know in 2000 we ran the All star tour, if you were in the top ten ,they would give you $200 a show. As luck would have it we were 11th or 12th most of the year. but finish 9th.
