PRESS RELEASE, HOOSIER RACING TIRES CIVIL WAR SERIES FROM THE OFFICE OF JOHN PADJEN MOTORPORTS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, MONDAY, JUNE 11, 2007 California’s Big One; Civil War Series heads to famed Calistoga half mile Saturday By Bill Sullivan CALISTOGA, CA – The Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series is bound for the biggest track on the annual tour this Saturday night, the famed Calistoga Speedway. Nestled in the heart of the Napa wine country, this monster half mile track is the largest dirt track in California. A track for many that is described as frightening. For others its intimating. But for race fans is the perfect combination of speed and beauty. Saturday night will mark the fourth running of the annual “Calistoga Cup” for the traveling Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Series. Thirty or more of California’s top teams are expected to compete on the track that is twice the size of those they are accustomed to and will be traveling at speedway in the neighborhood of 100 miles per hour. “Calistoga Speedway is no track to take lightly,” says former race winner Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. “There is no doubt this place is far more dangerous than the others with the speeds we are traveling. She is an intimidating old place and if you respect her you’ll be alright. If you don’t she can bite you harder than you can imagine.” Entering Saturday’s event, DeCaires is one of the few drivers that has claimed victory at Calistoga Speedway. In addition to the veteran driver’s days with the Northern Auto Racing Club, DeCaires has a Civil War victory at Calistoga in 2003. For point leader Andy Forsberg of Auburn, the place commonly called “Stoga” is one of the the few tracks in California that has eluded the man they call “Mr. Excitement.” Racing this year of the eve of Father’s Day, a victory in the 2007 Calistoga Cup would rank high on Forsberg’s racing resume as his father, Richard Forsberg turned many laps on the special Napa County Fairground’s track. In those early days, Andy Forsberg was many years from championships in the Civil War Series, Silver Dollar Speedway and Placerville Speedway but there was one thing he knew back then that he one day wanted to do, race and win at Calistoga. “I’ve won some pretty special races, like the Fall Nationals, the Pacific Sprint Cup and the Al Hinds Memorial,” said Forsberg. “Those races are up near the top of the list of my favorites. But a win at Calistoga would go right up there with them, this place is special.” As a youngster, Forsberg watched his father perform in many races. One of the places that stands vividly clear in his memory is Calistoga Speedway where his father spent many Saturday nights heating up the rich Napa clay on the track that has the scenic backdrop of Mt. Saint Helena. “I saw a lot of races but I remember watching my dad race here more than the others,” said Forsberg. “This place is special and I can’t of a better Father’s Day present then a victory here. We all have to use our heads though, because this isn’t just any other race track.” Forsberg enters Saturday’s event in the point lead of the Civil War Series. As the defending series champion, Forsberg sits with a 7-point advantage over Rohnert Park’s Brett Rollag. Rollag is a driver that can fare well at a track like Calistoga as he is a young driver that uses great patience and poise to secure a top finish, something that is surely a prerequisite for a top finish here. Colby Wiesz of Colfax is third in the standings of the series, 14-points from the lead. For Wiesz a Calistoga victory would have special meaning as well. Wiesz is the driver of the FnF Racing #X1 co owned by Steve Tuccelli and Alan Bradway. Bradway’s brother, the late Dave Bradway Jr. had a great deal of success at Calistoga during his life that was cut short due to a racing accident. Sacramento’s Mike Henry is fourth in the Civil War standings. Henry has been on fire with multiple wins this season in non series events at Ocean Speedway and Petaluma Speedway and is sure to be on the gas in big fashion along with DeCaires who rounds out the top five in the John Taylor Motorsports #35 car. Andy Gregg of Placerville is sixth in the standings ahead of Brandon Wimmer of Fairmount, Indiana, Matt Petty of Jackson, Carl Droivold of Grass Valley and Mark Hall of Nevada City. Sitting one spot out of the top ten is Kyle Larson of Elk Grove, at just 14-years of age, Larson is making headlines this season with successful runs at Placerville Speedway and Silver Dollar Speedway. Larson is currently the top runner in contention for the Civil War Series Rookie of the Year awad with Mason Moore being his closest rival for the title just five points back. Local driver Mike Benson will be a driver to watch Saturday night. A resident of Calistoga, Benson is one of few drivers that can claim the famous speedway as his hometown track. For Benson, a win at “home” would be the highlight of his racing career. “I grew up at this place, there is nothing I want more as a driver than a win at Calistoga Speedway,” said Benson, who ranks 28th in the standings with 2 starts in the series this season. “I remember the old days here when this place was the talk of the town, they had a parade at the start of the season with all of the cars. This place saw many big names in racing. I would love to win this deal and this is one of the few races where we actually have that ability unlike when we run here with the Outlaws each year.” The gates of the Napa County Fairground will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The pit gate will open at 3:30 to allow all race teams to unload on the infield before parking their transporters in the parking area. Qualifying is set to begin at 6:30. All seating is general admission at $20 for adults and $10 for children. For additional information on the Civil War Series visit www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com.

PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY... 18700 Lake Perris Drive... Perris, CA 92571 (951) 940-0134 www.perrisautospeedway.com
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LATE MODELS HEAD BALD NIGHT RACE AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!
(JUNE 12, 2007, PERRIS, CA) The Art’s Concrete Pumping Extreme Late Models will head the program when Perris Auto Speedway presents “Bald Night” this Saturday, June 16th. Any fan that has a completely baldhead will get into the races free this Saturday. And, if they are not bald and want to get in free, a barber will be stationed at the front gate to do the deed. Joining the Late Models will be the PASSCAR Modifieds, Street Stocks and the crazy Pick-A-Part Cruisers. In addition to “Bald Night,” June is Kid’s Month at The PAS and all kids 12 and under will be admitted free when an adult accompanies them. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.
“Bald Night is a fun deal,” PAS promoter Don Kazarian recently stated. “We have people standing by the front gate waiting to see if anybody is going to get their head shaved and we always have five or six guys who do it to save on their admission price. We usually have them all line up for a team photo on the front walkway as well.”
A couple of years ago at “Bald Night” it was extra special for one fan. Unbeknownst to his girlfriend, he planned to have his head shaved at the front gate. Needless to say she was shocked (possibly mortified) when he did it! However, her biggest shot was yet to come. After the team photo with all of the other bald dudes, the guy was handed the microphone and promptly dropped to one knee and proposed to her! The crowd went wild, she said “Yes,” his hair grew back and everybody lived happy ever after.
“The proposal was great,” Kazarian said. “We knew the guy was going to do that, because he called and asked us about it earlier in the week. However, we did not know he was going to get his head shaved at the gate. It was a lot of fun and that is what these nights have been designed for. We have bigger crowds for these races and they always have a great time.”
“Tattoo Night” will follow “Bald Night” at The PAS next week when Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply presents the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. Anybody with a tattoo will get in for just $5.00 on that night. “The tattoo has to be one that is visible to everyone. We are not going to put a blanket up so someone can show us a private tattoo,” Kazarian said with a laugh.
The Late Models come into Saturday’s show as the most competitive of PASSCAR’s five divisions. In the first eight races of the year, the class has produced seven different winners. Mike Kirby, of Torrance, is the only two-time winner thus far in 2007. Hawthorne’s Ron Bartels became the seventh different winner two weeks ago. Bartels father, Bill, leads the championship standings by 18 points over Cathedral City’s Art Peterson heading into Saturday’s race. The slender Peterson is the defending series champion and also won the truck championship at the track two years ago.
In the Modifieds, the top two in the standings have won the last two races. Randy Thornell of Apple Valley won two weeks ago while veteran Johnny Lathrop of Corona won four weeks ago. Heading into Saturday’s show, Thornell is 28 points up on Lathrop, who is a former Corona Raceway champ. In the Street Stocks, Hemet’s Tim Shadduck won the last main event, but Kenny Mann of Torrance is having a dream season. In the first six races Mann has three wins and two-second place finishes. He leads Riverside’s Jim Coates by 19-points heading into Saturday’s race. The Riverside duo of Tom and Jeff Gillum hold a commanding 72-point lead over Donnie Fengler and Phil Holmes in the Pick-A-Part Cruiser class.
Saturday’s “Bald Night” affair will feature some sure to be hairy action that will include qualifying for the Late Models and bumper bustin’ heats and main events for all classes in attendance.
In addition to Saturday's race on the half-mile clay oval, there will be drag racing on Friday at the popular Street Legal Strip at The PAS where you can race your own car for just $30.00. Gates at the will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00 at the Drag Strip.
Anyone wishing more information can contact Perris Auto Speedway at (951) 940-0134.
Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of the Southern California Fair), approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go two miles east to the fairgrounds.

Calistoga may know spring water but Elk Grove’s DeCaires knows Calistoga 2005 Civil War champion returns to “the big one” Saturday as only previous race winner by Bill Sullivan
CALISTOGA, CA (6-13-07) - The small town of Calistoga is nestled in the scenic Napa Valley and is known for many attractions including wine, fine dining, hot springs and the home of the Calistoga Spring Water Company. Aside from the tourism and agricultural characteristics, Calistoga is also the home of California’s largest dirt racetrack, the famed Calistoga Speedway.
At a half mile in length and poised in the shadow of the impressive Mt. Saint Helena, Calistoga Speedway is by far the most intimidating tracks in the Golden State. Why is this special place so intimidating?
Simply put it’s a combination of items including Calistoga’s great size and average speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. But by far, the most intimidating fact in every driver’s mind when they race at Calistoga Speedway is remembering that 10 different drivers have perished as a result of accidents there in the early days of racing.
“Calistoga Speedway is an intimidating old girl,” says Elk Grove’s Greg DeCaires, one of some 30 drivers that will be racing Calistoga this Saturday night for the fifth round of the Civil War Sprint Car Series. “It’s a special place to all of us. She is big, she is fast and you have to respect her. If you don’t respect this track she can bite you pretty hard.”
Entering Saturday’s event, DeCaires is the only previous winner of the annual Civil War Calistoga Cup in the returning field. Prior to winning this prestigious race in June of 2003, the man who is known as the “catfish” turned many laps at the famed half mile while racing with the now defunct Northern Auto Racing Club. DeCaires won his first ever feature win at the speedway in August of 1992 while piloting the popular Bumgarner #88 sprint car.
With two Calistoga wins on his resume along with championship titles in the Civil War Series, Placerville Speedway and Silver Dollar Speedway DeCaires will bring two characteristics with him Saturday night that prove successful at Calistoga Speedway, experience and patience.
“This is one of my favorite places to race, and it’s also the scariest so its kind of a love hate relationship I guess,” said DeCaires. “But that’s how we all feel coming here. If you race on this track you better be scared in some fashion. If you aren’t scared of this track chances are you are going to get hurt.”
In his previous Calistoga Cup victory in 2003, DeCaires was aboard the #1k Redi-Green Motorsports Sprint Car. The following year the team returned with Pennsylvania hot shoe Mike Wagner behind the wheel to win a second cup race. This year, DeCaires will be aboard the competitive #35 sprint car owned by John Taylor Motorsports. This will mark the third year DeCaires will be in the cockpit of Taylor’s car at Calistoga Speedway and a victory with the team would be bitter sweet as DeCaires will part ways with Taylor at the end of this season to return to the Golden State Challenge in 2008 aboard the newly formed NMI Industrial #24 sprint car.
“I can’t thank the Taylor family enough for what they have given me in this team for the last four years,” said DeCaires, following his victory at Placerville last Saturday. “Every night this car is perfect and I have the easy job. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into Calistoga. I would love to win one there for John Taylor.”
Due to a family commitment, Taylor will be unable to attend Saturday’s race. A former open wheel driver himself, Taylor is confident of the team’s ability at California’s own track that is too tough to tame.
“It will be tough not being there with them for this one,” said Taylor. “But I’m sending them with everything they need and plenty of crew. Greg knows that place far more than I do so I am confident they will do just fine. They will keep me posted by cell phone throughout the night.”
DeCaires is currently fifth in the 2006 Civil War Series point standings. Andy Forsberg of Auburn is the current point leader. Forsberg has never won at Calistoga Speedway but much like DeCaires he brings a vast amount of knowledge to the track as competitor and the son of Richard Forsberg, a three-time Calistoga Speedway winner.
“This isn’t just any other track that’s for sure,” said Forsberg. “My dad raced her many times and when I dreamed of winning as a child it was always at Calistoga. Since the day’s my dad raced here these cars have gotten a lot faster but we have improved safety technology as well. No matter what you have to use your head at this place because the slightest error could end up in disaster.”
