Stayed up like a dumb ass and watched the daytona 500 "race". I was pissed off because the fastest cars finally got to the front 1/2 way to 3/4 way through the race and then it was follow the leader with no more passing. Then i thought about it for a second, and 3/4 of all of the sprint car races i have ever been at were the same way. Why are we so hard on Nascar again?

500 miles of boring is worse than 25 miles of boring...
I can't watch a whole Nascar race, I was switching back & forth to other stuff, so what happened to Smoke? He pulled into the lead briefly around Lap 101 & when I tuned back in, he was way back. Wasupwitdat?

You are going to the wrong sprint car races. Sure, there will be some that are boring. Just like any other sport. When the NASCAR drivers say they were just riding around waiting for the last part of the race to make a move it makes me wonder what the first 450 miles were for. Last nights race looked like a hobby stock feature at a local dirt track. Wrecks, car hitting jet dryer and a big crash in the final laps. Nope, I didn't watch it, just read about it online. I'll stick with the sprint cars!

Try a non winged race, and in particular a race at Perris Auto Speedway in CA. You won't see follow the leader.

Don't get me wrong, after experiencing sprint car racing, i will never attend a nascar race again. (been 11 years and counting) That being said, i still love to follow all forms of racing, even if it is on TV for some of them. I was just thinking about why i hated last night's "race" and it reminded me of a lot of disappointing nights at the dirt track. Fast car out front, game over, no passing. Just found it ironic. I am not going back to the dark side though, don't worry.

It's called NASCAR envy. They're bigger so we have to dislike them or our Sprint Car friends won't accept us. Now get in lock step and don't ask anymore questions!

I wish NASCAR had the courage to shorten the super speedways. The restrictor plate circus is NOT racing.
The Daytona 500 was a spectacle, but not because of the racing. Danica, the wrecks, and a jet fuel fire provided some entertainment, but without them, all you'd be left with is a lame freight train spectacular that features overpaid shoebox pilots.

I think the 3 day long 500 event distracted from the event..Waite sunday for 3 hrs to race, go to tv monday at noon and it will be at 7PM. Then the big fire . I think if you cut all those bad things out and 500 was run on time we might think it was a better race. Who could expect all of these to happen? Luck was with most of us that we did not have a ticket to race and have to be at work monday.

The funniest thing about them to me is all there safety talk, #1 thing should be to GET RID OF THEM &^%$(*@! MIRRORS. Racecars should not use. I'd just about bet if Earnhardt was still here he'd say the same.

The world is crazy. Just saw that Smoke got around $300,000 for finishing 16th, Danica got over $100,000 (or was it 200,000? going on memory from today's newspaper) for not finishing (Or did they let her keep running till she finished?)
Knoxville winner got about $100,000
And NASCAR is boring.....no wonder Kyle Larson is going there, tho... wish he'd stay in dirt track, but who can argue with big $$$$?

Breaking News: NASCAR has handed down penalties to the #48 car of Jimmie Johnson stemming from the unapproved C-posts taken from the car prior to opening-day practice at Daytona International Speedway. Crew chief Chad Knaus and car chief Ron Malec have been suspended for the next 6 Sprint Cup races and from NASCAR until April 18. Johnson has been docked 25 driver points and owner Jeff Gordon has been docked 25 owner points. Johnson and the #48 car now stand at -23 points. Knaus has also been fined $100,000 -Clarification on the Johnson penalty: Jeff Gordon is the listed owner of the #48 car. Gordon was only docked owner points, his driver points and the #24 owner points are not impacted. From Speed Center Facebook Page !!!

I spent my Navy hitch on the flight deck of a carrier launching jets. One of the things we all had to do was go to fire fighting school at the Philly Naval base. To fight jet fuel fires we'd use a special truck equipped with a turret that shot foam. NASCAR can say all they want about safety but they were not prepared for a jet fuel fire. If JPM had wedged his car under that jet dryer and become trapped it would have been a very ugly scene for the national TV audience. The Daytona Speedway reminded me of the 1967 USS Forrestal fire.

Your just now figuring this Nascar big money thing out? The 500 pays somewhere around $250k just to start, Danica did finish and yes they leave for the money. Don't forget most all paid drivers don't race for the purse they race for their contract monies, some get a percentage of the winnings some times. The big time drivers normally just race for their contract monies. Don't think for a minute these guys (and gals) just race for the fun of it, after all, it is a business.

i'm going to say the big time drivers are way more concerned with the money they can make from merchandise and endorsements than what they can make driving.

I would agree with part of that. Some driving contracts, I'm sure, are pretty heavy.

For years NASCAR drivers and teams have wanted a professional trained fire, rescue, and medical team to follow them to every track.
Just like the Safety Safari that NHRA has.
But the powers that be in the front offices at NASCAR want nothing to do with that.
Monday should have opened their eyes that they were far from prepared to handle an emergency like that.
Good to see a fellow Navy Vet!! Spent 10 years in the Navy Hospital Corps. 5 years in Okinawa and the rest between San Diego and Great Mistakes by the Lake.
