VENEGAS WINS ANOTHER AMA SPEEDWAY CYCLES MAIN
- By Tim Kennedy

Industry, CA., Jun. 6 - Charlie Venegas continued his hot streak by winning his second consecutive AMA Speedway Cycles Division 1 feature Wednesday in front of about 500 fans at Industry Speedway in the Industry Hills Expo Center. He had a perfect night on his 500-cc JAWA cycle, winning all three of his heat races for the maximum nine points, plus his semi-final qualifying race. Venegas, 40, as high-point rider, selected pole position for the four-rider, four lap finale and led all four laps.

Point leader Buck Blair, a four-time Industry winner this year, started second and dropped to fourth on lap one when he drifted high. Jimmy Fishback and Ricky Wells, 15, finished second and third respectively, ten yards back. Venegas, the 2006 track champion during the fourth AMA season at Industry, has three main event victories at Industry this season in nine races. He also has won three of the last four features at Fast Fridays Speedway in Auburn. Last Friday in a prestigious AMA Speedway National race at Costa Mesa Venegas finished fourth. He trailed winner Greg Hancock, Billy Hamil and Mike Faria.

Shawn McConnell led all four laps of the D-1 consolation race and then fell without injury in the first turn following the checkered flag. Neil Facchini and fellow D-1 rider/first-time side-car rider Robbie Sauer led all four laps in a three-team 1,000-cc cycle/side-car race. They raced in a clockwise direction. Joe Jones and his passenger Jimmy Olson won the first two heats and closed quickly on the winners, but fell a length short of victory. Vince Giamformaggio, of Whittier, led all five laps in a five-rider D-2 main for intermediate-level riders. Danny Baker, of Covina, made an inside pass in turn four on the final lap of a six-rider event to win his second D-3 main for rookie riders. Joey Holt, 12, won a three-rider Youth D-1 main on his 250-cc cycle. Richard Clark, 15, took the lead on the final lap and won his second Youth D-2 main in just his third race.
