Southern Oklahoma Speedway Gears up for 2012 Season!
Track Schedule and Rules Now Posted
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – January 4, 2012 - Southern Oklahoma Speedway owner and promoter John Webb is gearing up for his first full year of racing action at the Ardmore, Oklahoma race track. Purchasing the facility from long-time owner Virgil Page around mid-season last year, Mr. Webb jumped right in and started making improvements to the facility that was badly needed.
"This track has tons of potential, it just needed somebody to come in, spend some money and time and get it to where it needs to be," said Webb earlier this winter.
Among the noticeable changes are new infield lights, painted buildings, a new concession stand with a bigger kitchen as well as an inside eating area on the spectator side and remolded bathrooms on both the pits and grandstand area. This and more are expected to be completed before the season gets underway with a practice session and registration on March 17, 2012.
Classes competing at S.O.S. in 2012 include USRA modifieds, limited modifieds, stock cars, pure stocks, late models and the tornado/fwd divisions. The season will officially get underway on Saturday night, March 24th after a car show during the day with the location to be announced at a later time.
The track will race each and every Saturday night except on Easter weekend (April 7) and the season will conclude on Friday and Saturday night, October 6-7 with the annual running of the "Jordan Page Memorial."
A wide variety of special events are planned, including two appearances by the Tulsa based Oil Capital Racing Series (OCRS). Those dates are Saturday night, June 30th and Saturday night, August 18th. The Sprint Series of Texas (SST) will make their annual appearance on Saturday night, September 29th. The United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) will make a pair of special Friday night appearances, May 18th and June 8th.
Several spectator attractions are also scheduled including a candy drop for the kids, a mechanics race, back to school night and an enduro/demolition derby. Also new will be a two-seat modified with fans getting the chance to sit inside the cockpit of a modified, complete with steering wheel and pedals as one of the officials take them, at speed, around the track.
A complete set of rules for all divisions as well as general rules are up on the tracks website as well as driver registration forms. These must be filled out prior to race time. These, along with the 2012 track schedule can be found on their website www.southernoklahomaspeedway.com.
