I got news that our OKC City Leaders are trying to get rid of Taft Stadium. This is where I got the racing fever, and where I received my NW Classen High School Diploma.
We all really need to take a stand on this one. The lose of the Fairgrounds Speedway was bad enough, but now they want to take away the Historic Stadium that today only holds Jr. High & High School Football games.
I can only guess the noise levels during a Friday night High School Football game are annoying to the current residents.

I know there was a group of people trying to raise money for restoration of the place. I do not know if they are around.
You as well as I do once the city gets hell bent on something they are going to try everything they can to get it done.

I read an article in the Lawton Constitution (Lawton Mac played the last game in the old staduim) where they were going to tear it down and rebuild a state of the art facility in the same place.

The question here is it own by the city or Oklahoma City Public Schools?

Construction, means concrete, asphalt, and so much else. In cases like this and the speedway spot, concrete and asphalt would mean the most. follow the money. If you can......................
Also it is to raise the property values in the area. Several of the downtown area have bought up spots in the low income areas, and as the taxes go up, well the wheel keeps turning.
The catch in my craw is this-- It's like a quiet war against our racing history everywhere. It's heartbreaking really.

Taft Stadium was home to the 1944 Bedlam Football game.
I never realized that until I read an article earlier this football season that a writer from The Daily Oklahoman did rating the top 10 high school football stadiums in the metro area.
