I Remember him one year at the Nationals, I think it was in time trials he drove straight into the turn 1 wall A TON! Punched a big hole through the wall, I remember track safety crew walking through the hole in the fence to fetch car parts. Kewl picture, I miss Jimmy Sills as well.

That was '91. Jimmy was in Don Berry's white 7. He really got his bell rung. When they towed the car back to the pits, Jimmy looked at it and said, "what happened to our car?"

That was not '91 and I know because I was there when it happened and I wasn't there in '91. It was '96.

Then it must have been '88 because that's the only other year I was there,

& I know I was there!

Well I know you were there in '88 and I was supposed to be as well :-). I don't think Sills was in Don Berry's car in '88 or '91. I know he was in '94 (well he was supposed to be but he got all busted up at Belleville). I don't know what happened in '95 because I wasn't there. Unless he managed to nail the turn one wall on two separate occasions IN qualifying I'm pretty sure the time the guy in this thread is referring to is '96. He was loopy the rest of the night and everybody had fun with him all night long. In fact Jimmy was in the Weikert car in '88. Go here http://www.knoxvilleraceway.com/Files/Historical-Results and select 1996 results and stories. If you search that document for "Sills" you will eventually see the incident I believe we are all referring to.

And Jimmy hates that name! It's "Luke Warmwater" from Hot Springs, Arkansas!

Here's an interesting piece of info. Jimmy told me once, "if anyone trys to tell you they went to high school with me, they're full of s__t"

His mom, Marilyn (rest her soul - a very sweet lady) married a guy last name Johnson. They moved to North Carolina. While living there, he was going to high school with the name JIMMY JOHNSON!

He moved back to Cali and started racing at West Capital Speedway when he was 19 using his real dad's name, Sills.

I think Max Dumesny hit the wall in almost the same place the same year. His steering broke and he hit it full speed, I thought he was gone. He stopped by my booth the next day, lifted his shirt and showed me what looked like was a painted on pair of stripes down his chest where the belts did their job, never seen anything like it.....

I'm almost certain the walls in the corners were still wooden when he punched a hole through it. Mid 90's sound about right.
