Job? Most of the people who volunteer their time driving tow trucks and push trucks at a race track have a job and it isn't hauling sprint cars off of a race track. They work somewhere else Monday thru Friday. That is something they do to help a sport they love. That isn't their job. Nice attitude. And i agree with a couple of the other posters. A lot of the drivers don't even care enough about the cars and pout and walk away. And a tow truck driver making enough to cover his fuel cost is supposed to baby his car? I would assume most drivers don't think the truck drivers are idiots, but i will tell you this, if i did this at my local track and one driver treated me like a moron, i would drop his car on the ground and leave the track never to return again.

Before I break down your post, let me clarify one thing.
I have no problem with 99.9% of the push truck drivers and tow truck drivers we have encountered. I am the FIRST to go out of my way to say thank you, occasionally when it's not deserved. This year alone, in only 8 races, we replaced two rear bumpers as the result of a push truck coming up to "bump" to hard. In the one time we were towed in, the front wing was ripped off in the process. I still thanked the drivers/workers for their hard work.
But I do have a problem when a respectful question is posed(original poster of topic) and the general attitude is "if you don't like it ....blah blah blah." My "attitude" is to illustrate to the defenders what they fail to recognize - we are all in this together.............except for one thing - if there wasn't a sprint car to tow or push, where would a push truck driver be.
As for your latest post:
1.Sprint car drivers/team members are not volunteering their time at a Saturday night race track?
2.Sprint car drivers/team members don't have a job Monday through Friday?
3.Sprint car drivers/team members aren't doing this for the sport they love?
4.(drivers walking away)So when a tow truck driver gets mad/is offended, it's OK for them to drop everything and walk away, but when a highly charged race car driver with his life and/or his livelihood on the line gets torn up in a race, he's supposed to remain cool, calm, and collected? Nice attitude/double standard.
And last, just so you know who I am - in the one instance that our car had to be towed to the pits this year, the driver got out of the car and walked to the infield where we were pitted. He was upset that a lapped car drove over him. Me, being the person I am, told him in no uncertain terms to get back over to his car and help the tow truck drivers do their job.
And yes, it's their job. Especially the ones receiving any sort of compensation be it, free pit passes, free gas, free food, a paycheck/cash, or free parking/power for their RV. Play semantics on the word job with someone else. My attitude comes from experience and/or knowledge on both sides of the aisle. Can you say that?
The greatest knowledge is to know that you know nothing
at all.

The cage lift bars used in Tulare work great, it looks crazy when they are driving over the berm up the hill and outa the place the car seems to swing around a lot BUT they way they rig them nothing hits and more than once I have seen them place a car into a trailer with no pushing and shoving. We run all over nor cal and I have seen the push truck driver that thought we needed to be going 60 to fire, but usually a kind word and all is well. Most of the push off incdents I have seen were caused by not backing down a motor full of fuel or oil. I try to thank every push truck driver.

Dean -
The best thing you could do is just keep attending races, eating hot dogs, and drinking beer. It's what you're best at. Leave the details to the rest of us.
We have never, not one time(unless you're counting QM's), raced at Skagit Speedway. We have attended races there to watch/help. The closest track to us is the track in that picture, and even our naysayers call it our local track and claim us as a local car. Although, you may be onto one thing. Sometimes it feels like a cage. I prefer to call it a vortex. Someplace you can't escape.
I posted that picture to illustrate the fact that sometimes even the tow truck guys/girls can be disrespectful. To save you the novel and keep your hangover headache to a minimum, here's what you're looking at:
The two cars, officials, spectators, pit crew members, drivers, push truck drivers, and everyone else who was there at that moment - were paying respect to a local driver/friend/competitor/husband/father/brother/son, by honoring him with a memorial lap - and standing to pay their respect. The car with the blue wing was the last car he drove and owned, and was being driven by one of his close friends. The other car is my son, who was taken under his wing, and was treated as a son.
The "official" track wrecker operator/push truck director sitting in the infield is the most arrogant/disrespectful/deceitful track "volunteer"(choke) I have ever encountered. His disdain for me, my son, the memorial lap honoree, or whatever else happened to be his problem on that particular day and at that moment, far exceeds anything I have ever witnessed a driver do to be disrespecful.
I simply posted the picture to show that it's not just drivers that can be dickheads.
That's my short version.
The greatest knowledge is to know that you know nothing
at all.

Really? This post has no valid place for you to post. It's people like you that slander the tow industries name, and it's drivers. let me guess you are probably one of those who has a corvette a 1/4 inch from the ground and you want it on a wrecker because you know it all..... get a life and quit complaining about tow.
Hammerdown!
