Do you have questions about Eldora? Roger Slack, the new guru there, joins us in studio today for Winged Nation and we can ask him your questions.....
Tim Kaeding is also on the show, should be a good one. Tune in at 12:30 Eastern on MotorRacingNetwork.com

Nawh! I don't need to call him,all you gotta do is show up and camp all the loonies running around the camp grounds will tell you all you need to know about The Big E.E stands for experience,it is every bit that and lots more, such behavior is punishable by law off the premises.Once camping there is lifelong learning fact. You just can't wait to get back there if you have experienced it,for me no thanks,I'm one who has manners, very quiet, not a foul mouthed alky or druggie, like you find circulating there,If Tony would just light off a bale in the parking lot all the tokers in Ohio,Indiana,Illinois, would be there it would be bigger than WOODSTOCK ever coulda been. Just my opinion,to never ,ever,return....a pit,but the races were great, but half the people probably couldn't see it because of those dilated eyes and hungovers..

Hell that happens at Football games, Baseball games, Hockey, and every other Dirt track in the Country. Better lock yourself indoors or the No Mannered Foul Mouthed alkies and druggies are gonna take over. It's just stupid to me that what others do around you keeps you from doing something you like to do. If you would Mind your own P's And Q's they should not be a problem. Try going to Williams Grove for an Outlaw event. Oh- wait too many Ill Mannered ,Drunk, and Foul Mouthed Druggies. Awwww forget it lock yourself indoors. Like I said earlier they are everywhere. Do What I do sit back ,and laugh when they make asses out of themselves.

+1
Sometimes the entertainment of people watching, is better than the event itself. LOL

I am not the only fish in ocean, who doesn't think very much of Eldora's temporary populations. Also it is not everyone, lets get that clear,I think after Mr. Slack is there for a while you will see some big changes in the way things are done there,it is, as you say, this type of behavior is everywhere and I don't go everywhere and thats why we live in America, these people pay their money too and its obvious by the replies you know exactly about what I said. I value my behavior to conduct my self as a respectable person not ruin other peoples outings just because I cannot control my awkward behavior,if you condon to indulge your racing craving so be it more power to you.I just prefer NOT to be there.Yes, I have been to the Grove off and on for several decades and it has gotten progressively worse there also,so I don't go to all those shows either. Some people are just embarassed by the behavior of others who have no control over their acts of obnoxiousness.Thank you,for replying it just shows other people are aware of it but choose to participate by being there.

We've seen how controlling the fun can go too far...read Doug Auld's column in Sprint Car & Midget about the Knoxville Nationals.
Everyone enjoys events in different ways. You don't act like them. They don't act like you. But it's not our place to tell people how they should act. This isn't a 5-star restaurant. It's, more than likely, their vacation that they saved up for and took time off of work for. Let them enjoy how they want.
This of course does not include physical harm to other people. Not acceptable ever.
The great thing about Eldora is that it's huge, with a lot of seating. There are areas that are slightly more "entertaining" than others. And there are places that are better for families with children. Just gotta find the ones that fit best for you!

Everybody wants to talk about attendence going down. Do you think dirt track racing crowds and environment keeps people from going or is it better to let the partiers do their thing?
These big races are big business now. Things can't be what they were. You'll see changes at Eldora eventually and Knoxville has every right to enforce their laws, too.
I quit going...too many drunks and bad behavior. I know a lot of people who think the same way.
Same with big time college and professional sports. It's a bad environment and the entertainment value no longer justifies my investment. I go to sporting events at the small college level and once or twice a year I spend a weekend in South Bend during football season because I enjoy the environment.
Seems to me that Eldora and especially Knoxville are coming to the crossroads. It'll be interesting to see which direction they go.

Sprint777x...Knoxville does have the right to enforce their laws. Please read Doug Auld's column. It's gone too far...
There are tracks that offer "family seating" only. With no beer, foul language, etc. I think that's a great plan and think more tracks will implement this.
One fan's attendance isn't more valuable than anothers. We need to allow room for everyone to have their fun and enjoy the event. Again..barring physical violence. Not acceptable at anytime anywhere.
If we start banning alcohol, late night campfires, noise, etc. then yes we'll lose fans. And right now we can't afford to lose any.

Kendra,
I could not care less about what Doug Auld wrote. He got a ticket, boo, hoo. Now he wants to take out on his hosts. Here's a guy who gets into the races for free, sells his little magazine and wants to cry foul because he wasn't treated the way he thinks he should. Too bad...stay home. Auld has no credibility.
Knoxville is a small town where about 8000 live every day. It's their home. Yea, booze in public, campfires in the wrong places and overbearing noise, ect. is going to warrant action, if it's against the law.
Eldora is a different situation, being largely self-contained on private property. Take your party to public property, you'll probably have to conform to the law or pay the consequences.
Knoxville opens it's doors to racefans during Nationals. The town wants you to have a good time and if you wish, to come back. But, the town expects those who come to obey the law while they are in town. If you can't do that, then don't go.
Oh, by the way...attendence is going down for many reasons, not the least of which people are getting fed up with the environment.

I have not, one time, said people shouldn't be held accountable for actions against the law. My point is...people have fun in different ways. No one should say "my way is the only way". Again...there's room for everyone. No one is forcing you to drink or act out of control. Don't force them not to and by saying they shouldn't be allowed at the track, that's exactly what you're doing.

If you can't behave yourself in public, you shouldn't be in public.
Again, the environment at the track and around the track is turning off too many former fans and potential fans.
You aren't likely to get arrested or ticketed, or harrassed if you are not in violation. If, by some weird instance, it does happen, you have a right to have your day in court.
If you think law enforcement or the event doesn't allow you to pursue your happiness, then it's your money. Spend it somewhere that you can do what you want.

I can't figure out which Eldora I am going to and the one some people write about. I have been going since 1966, and have not had one problem. Are there some drunks there, sure! But I have never had to endure a barrage of bad language or any other thing that would keep me from going back. One thing I do not know about is the campground, I always drive home after the races.

The campgrounds have the same varied levels of activity. You just have to know where to camp. And the tracks will likely take the same steps there as they did with seating, family seating, alcohol-free zones, etc.
I'm glad you've seen the same Eldora I have. There are those that get out of control, you just don't partake in it. I enjoy the racing and the atmosphere and the fans. Eldora is known for being a "mecca" of sprint car racing. We shouldn't start excluding people.

i find that is how it is at most tracks if you sit amongst the ones you desire that group can and will control there surroundings and make sure its a good time . im the type that if you offend me and or others while we are enjoying what we payed our hard earned money to enjoy i will let you hear it. polite at first ! and then we all enjoy .
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I was there for the King's Royal this year, and really didn't see a whole lot of crazy late night partying. Some of the Generators in the campgrounds were louder than the parties. I walked around most of the campground with my nephew and waved hi and got it back most of the time. ( was waiting for invites and free beer, but you know....LOL)
Somebody brought a pool...nope not a kiddie pool, one of those 16 or 18 foot round inflatable pools, that was crazy.
There was a few drunken incidents here and there, couple fights I guess, not near the front stretch, and some guy who was really drunk took a header down the steps, but overall, it wasn't anything I wouldn't expose a younger kid to.

what a bunch of curmudgeons! I didn't know racing events were supposed to be a fortress of timid, stone-cold sober, robots!
this quote is amazing! " No Mannered Foul Mouthed alkies and druggies are gonna take over "
it's a conspiracy! AHHHHHH!!!! that guy might be stoned! arrest him! he's gonna molest my grandson! LOL
ok, sorry. acting normal. here's my suggestion, if someone's doing something really dumb or annoying you, go tell security. if security tells you you're overreacting, you probably are. if you aren't they will surely solve the problem.
anyway, back on topic! I would ask him to start posting updates & pics throughout the year of the track prep they're doing. seems to me the only criticism I hear of eldora regularly is that they sometimes provide a pretty crappy surface.

Remember all the old stories you heard from your dad about fun times they had at the royal, nationals or indy. You could not do anything like that these days because of these up tight a** holes. Hell you can not have a camp fire if it's not in a certain spot!!

IMHO - Eldora is one of the last of the 'great frontiers' of racing fun-times ... haven't been there in a few years unfortunately ... but when I was there it was always fun and great racing. I've slept in a tent and slept in my car and stayed in a hotel in Greenville ... amongst the years ... but I remember the racing and fun in the campgrounds wandering from party to party and campfire to campfire as one of the best times... but then again I also recall the Bus Rides years at the Knox Nats as some of the more fun years too ...
Reckon the takeaway here is "all things are better done in moderation"... and as long as nobody gets hurt (one's brain cells not counted) "boys have at it"...
