(October 10, 2011) – Due to circumstances that have just recently developed,
the Oil Capital Racing Series event
scheduled for this Friday night (October 14th) at the Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oktaha
Oklahoma has been cancelled. No make up date has been announced at this time.
Check in on the OCRS website for updates regarding the status of this event.
There Will Be No Peace In The Valley As OCRS Storms Into Caney Valley Speedway
Saturday
Saturday night will mark the return of OCRS sprint cars to Caney Valley Speedway located in
Caney Kansas since Broken Arrow’s Jonathan Beason took the honors in 2009.
Pending the make-up date status of the Outlaw Motor Speedway event, CVS could
be the corral where the final gunfight takes place to determine the last man
standing. If CVS has a proverbial feather in their cap, it is the always
exciting and nerve racking wheel-wheel action the track’s layout always
produces. Less than 65 miles from Tulsa, CVS is by far one of the area’s most
underrated dirt tracks.
CVS
promoter Kerry Gorby has made a couple of attempts to bring OCRS into his tight
and racy quarter mile playground this racing season. Unfortunately, Mother
Nature kept such plans from taking place each time, but this go around; Gorby
wants to make a splash. In addition to the OCRS sprint cars waging battle on
Kansas turf, Gorby is also offering race fans “Late Models” on the same docket
with a general ticket price of only $12! (Senior tickets are only $5 and
kids 7-12 are just $4 and kids under six are in free!).Open wheel turf cars will be on the
program as well.“For this event,
I really wanted to do something special for the fans to come out for,” said
Gorby. “I think that adding these two (sprint cars and late models) with an
affordable ticket price will make for a great show.”
The
race for the OCRS championship and the “Harold Leep Championship Trophy” that
goes with it has become a two horse affair. Tulsa’s Sean McClelland takes a 77
point lead over Moore Oklahoma’s Whit “The Gasman” Gastineau. With a total of
95 points up for grabs per night, it’s McClelland’s to lose and Gastineau’s to
steal. These two combatants have won the bulk of the feature events in 2011,
which has placed them in this position. McClelland has seven such victories to
six for the Gasman. Just as fierce, yet tighter, is the battle for third place
in the final point tally. Stillwell’s Rafe Essary holds a meager three point
lead (1279-1276) over Owasso’s Matt Sherrell. This battle could easily come
down to the final lap of the final race. Several other positions amongst the
top fifteen can easily change as well. In addition, with support from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co; these
sprint car warriors will vie for over $25,000 in point fund money, which will
be the largest payout in OCRS history!
CVS gates will open at 4pm with green flag action getting
underway at 7:00pm
Track Directions: Go 0.8 miles west of the junction of US 75 and US 166 on CR
1600.
