Does anyone know much about the new surface that the DIRT guy is going to use on a new 3/4 mile track? Its suposed to be like dirt but needs no maintenance for 10 years.

Just hope it isn't anything like that Equitrack crap that horses ran on for awhile (polymer covered sand) that was toxic and broke down under heat....

Screw the "polymers and chemicals" added to shitty dirt, give me a true clay surface and someone who knows what the hell they are doing with proper watering and track preparation! You could see dust flying in that video no matter what Donnelly says and quite frankly I don't really get excited about breathing in chemical laden dust.

Kind of what I was thinking. Although a nice cushion is pretty rare anymore, I don't see how a factory could build a permanant one any place.

The synthetic surface was tested at Brewerton (N.Y.) this summer and flopped hard. I think it lasted two weeks before the surface was removed because of the outrageous amounts of dust the surface produced. The proposed 3/4 mile track has now also been changed to a 1/2 mile.

looks like it worked well THAT NIGHT. Could be a good thing for track owners that dont know how to properly prepare a dirt or clay track the natural way.

I'll give em credit, it wasn't dusty.
I find it funny that he thinks that no other racetrack in the country is non-dusty. Knoxville is hardly ever dusty (and it's larger than the track in the video), Oskaloosa is hardly ever dusty (and they don't water it). Myabe we just have better dirt in Iowa, I don't know...
I think it has more to do with Track Prep than it does with the material he was using, he basically admitted on the video that they worked on the track for 6 days prior to the actual race night, if the tracks would do that anyway, the dust at most of them would be far less than what they are producing today IMO.

Talked to the track crew at Knoxville and they said they started watering the track on Monday and watered it every day for the 360 Nationals the were scheduled to start on Thursday.

Exactly.......I wonder the cost of this product is vs. more loads of water?
My guess is, someone has a stake in this and is just trying to sell a product.
Actuall, there is already a product on the market that is used by some Kart tracks to keep dust down, it's made by a company called Trac-Tac. They also make a sell a line of tire treatments (dope), which are perfectly legal in kart racing.
