This is my 1st trip to the National Open. Can you go into the stands at anytime to put down blankets or do you have to wait until gates open? We will be arriving on Friday at approx. 2pm. Will I still be able to get a good seat. If anyone is willing to put down a blanket for me please message me.
I saw on a post something about a chili cook off. When and where are other activites?

You can not put down a blanket pior to the General Admission gates opening.

Just my opinion here, but I'd call the Grove ticket office ( 717-697-5000 ) and see if they have any reserved seating left. It might be a long shot because this race is always packed, but this way your guaranteed a seat. General admission is very limited and very low in the bleachers, which makes it hard to see the backstretch/turn 3 with the haulers parked in the infield. You're going to pay a little bit more but it's absolutely worth the extra money. Just ask for the highest seats they have available as there isn't really a bad seat in the house.
Check out the Williams Grove message board for talks about the other festivities going on this weekend. www.williamsgrove.com.

Sit high as you can, they pit cars with haulers in the infield. Lots of teams are watching the race from atop of those haulers and seeing the opposite straight can be an issue.
