Many fans I have bench raced with agree that the Trophy Cup is the most exciting race of the year. Putting the fast guys up front too many times results in action up front, but hohum racing in the peleton. I imagine many drivers will object to full inversion, but racing is entertainment, not a money pit for hot shoes. Most complaints about the Outlaws is that it turns into a follow the leader show on a dry slick track, thus ensuring the big bucks for the high dollar teams. I know NASCAR makes a show of quialifying and who gets the pole, but this is mostly a way to increase TV coverage. Recently I watched an Indy race where Will Power started on the pole and led the whole race. Where's the thrill in that? Sure there was some coverage of dices going on in back, but the battle for the lead is always the show. For example I was told that that fight for the lead between Kyle Larson and Sweet Brad was the best show of theyear.
Some old-timers, older than me, tell me that back in the day full inversion was the standard at many tracks. Trophy Cup can't come soon enough at Tulare, Steve Farias best track on the Left coast

Also, the Trophy Cup gives $40,000 or so each year to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It is a very special event on several levels.

I'm not even sure if it's possible but I've always thought that if the Trophy Cup format could be adapted for use at one night shows it would make them more interesting and exciting. jmho. Do you think it's feasible?

The Trophy Cup started out as a one day 410 show with the same format. So yes, they(other tracks) could put on a show like the Trophy Cup if they wanted to.

That first year there was some grumbling from the drivers about the inverted format. Ronnie Day was one of the guys that didn't seem too happy about inverting the field . . . . BUT he was the winner of TC #1!
I have every TC on video except 2007, when I let someone else shoot it.
I retired from being the traveling video guy after 20 years at the end of the 2006 season. For the 20 years, I went to 65 to 90 races a year. Since I hung it up in 2006 . . . . I still go shoot the TC
Always the best show of the year.

In Calif. back in the late 60's early 70's (super modified days), they not only had full inversions, but, at least at the bigger races (today’s owners and drivers would raise HE-double toothpicks) it wasn’t uncommon to have 40 lap Semi-mains. ALRIGHT, B-mains, I’m showing my age.

Yep... there is nothing that compares (with the exception of the Trophy Cup) to watching Wally Baker, Gary Patterson, Leroy VanConnett, Johnny Anderson, Johnny Brazil, Jimmy Gordon, Ernie Purcell, Al Pombo, Wayne Sue and and a host of others having to battle their way through the pack every Saturday night at West Capital Raceway. Hooked me for life!
