Sprint Cars next up at I-80 Speedway
Sprint Cars will take center stage at I-80 Speedway on September 16 & 17 with the running of the ASCS/NCRA Challenge. That event will feature drivers from both the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) and the National Championship Racing Association (NCRA). The two series last met at I-80 on April 15, 2007 in the ASCS/NCRA Showdown won by Watertown, South Dakota's Chuck Swenson.
The two day show will feature complete Sprint Car programs both nights with each feature paying $3,000 to win and $400 to start. Jack Dover of Springfield, Nebraska has a commanding lead in the 2011 ASCS Midwest point race. Dover is a former ASCS Midwest Champion having won the championship in 2008. Eric Lutz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is the defending ASCS Midwest Champion.
The NCRA point race is down to a battle between two former series champions, C. J. Johnson of Quinter, Kansas and Gary Lee Maier of Dodge City, Kansas. Johnson won the NCRA Championship in 2000, Maier is a 5-time former NCRA Champion. Jeremy Campbell of Wichita, Kansas is the defending NCRA Champion.
On Friday, September 16 the sprint cars will be joined by the Good Old Time Racing Association (GOTRA) and the Pro Ams. The Pro Ams will be running double features (no heat races). Each feature will pay $200 to win and $30 to start based on at least 15 cars. Racing starts at 7pm. Grandstand Admission is $15 for Adults, $5 for Juniors (6-15) with 5 and Under free. All Pit Passes will be $30.
On Saturday, September 17 in addition to a second complete ASCS/NCRA Sprint Car Show, Grand National/Limited Late Models and Hornets will both be running double features (no heat races). The Grand National/Limited Late Model features will pay $300 to win and $40 to start based on 15 or more cars and the Hornets will be racing for $100 to win and $20 to start in each feature (based on 15 or more cars). Racing starts at 7 pm with Grandstand Admission $20 for Adults, $5 for Juniors and 5 and under free. All Pit Passes will be $30.
I-80 Speedway is located off Interstate 80 at exit 420, halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. The 4/10 mile dirt track is home to the NASCAR Whelen All American Series (NWAAS) on Sunday nights, and host several specials featuring touring late model and sprint car series.
