“SPRINT CAR
SUPER SHOW” COMING TO OUTLAW MOTOR SPEEDWAY!
John Lemon
OCRS Public Relations
Tulsa, Oklahoma
(September 5, 2011)- Coming this Friday night, the regions only ‘touring’ Champ
Sprint Cars of the Oil Capital Racing
Series will embark on the grand facility of the Outlaw Motor Speedway in
Oktaha Oklahoma. The lightning quick 3/8 mile banked clay surface is one of the
fastest tracks on the OCRS circuit and OMS presents the OCRS drivers with the
ultimate challenge of speed and car control. To manhandle the 600 horsepower,
1500 pound rocket ships fitted with Goodyear racing tires around OMS is not for
the faint of heart. For the race fan, they are provided the highest form of hair
raising, knee knocking and nail biting entertainment that this wheel to wheel
action provides. To witness drivers racing inches apart at over 100 mph on dirt
where just the slightest mistake can wreck havoc makes ones nerves sizzle with
excitement.
Friday night will be the fifth stop at OMS for the 2011 racing season. Current
OCRS point leader Sean McClelland of
Tulsa has two wins at OMS this year. He would of had three if not for a tire he
blew in the final corner of the final lap back on August fifth. Not one to give
up, McClelland hammered the throttle to earn a runner-up finish. Jamie Passmore of Rose Oklahoma was
victorious that night. It broke a season long winless streak for the defending
champion after taking a series high eight wins in 2010. Then you have Whit “The Gasman” Gastineau of Moore
who topped all combatants in the first outing for OCRS at OMS back in May. While
McClelland leads the Gasman in points, Gastineau leads McClelland in feature
victories by a margin of six to five.
A small
sampling of a few other OCRS battle tested speed warriors that are expected to
compete in the “Sprint Car Super Show” include:
Matt Sherrell /
Owasso, OK: Sherrell is coming off a top five finish at the last OCRS event
and that finish catapulted him into third place in the point standings over
Rafe Essary who was involved in a accident which assisted in Sherrell’s move in
the points. “The Mongoose” has been involved in several exceptional runs from
the rear of the field. Will his first win of the year come at OMS?
Dean Drake Jr. /
Collinsville OK: “Deano” captured his first career OCRS main event this
season and has had multiple strong runs as well while racing on a limited
schedule as he tends to his sons racing endeavors. Deano has informed OCRS
officials that OMS is on his schedule for this Friday. Keep an eye on the #77
bullet.
Josh Toho / El
Reno, OK: Josh is the clear
front runner for the 2011 OCRS “Rookie of the Year” honors. He all but nailed
the coffin to his rookie contenders with his best OCRS finish last Saturday
night with a third. Toho is in his first year of sprint car racing and his
results are showing he and the team are working well together.
Danny Smith /
Sapulpa, OK: A former series owner, Smith has had his share of hurdles in
2011. If not issues on the track, he had to sit out a spell due to an off track
accident. He started the season well with a second at Lawton Speedway. It was a
result not duplicated till last week. Smith snared two OCRS wins in 2010 and it
would be expected to see him hoist a trophy before the season is completed.
Fred Mattox /
Drumright, OK: A multi time winner in local racing action, this young
gunslinger is locked in to snare that first OCRS checkered flag. Mattox has
been snake bit on occasion in 2011 but when the team gels, the number 26m
machine is one of the toughest cars in the field.
Shayla “The
Princess” Waddell / Oklahoma City, OK: This quiet and soft spoken young lady is coming off a
tie for her OCRS career best with a fourth in the last outing at the Salina
Highbanks. A two time winner of the now closed State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma
City, Princess Waddell can run with the boys without fail. The most experienced
drivers will tell you they have no problem racing Waddell hard as they know she
is in total control of her sprinter at all times. Many Look for the 88s car to
be on the podium in the near future.
Johnny “Hotrod”
Kent / Tulsa OK:A consistent
OCRS performer, Hotrod sits sixth in OCRS points only eight back of fifth. With
the delivery of a new motor recently, his performance has improved. Kent is as
steady as they come and not many work harder than Hotrod. His goal is to finish
in the top five in the standings and collect that first OCRS win. Look for the
“double nickel” car to run well.
Andrew Deal /
Dewey OK: A driver who cut his teeth on the local micro sprint circuit,
Deal can run side by side with the best sprint car drivers around. 2011 is
Deal's return to full season OCRS action behind the wheel of the ‘big cars’
after spending most of the last couple of seasons wheeling micros and midgets.
With crew chief and Car owner David Stephenson turning the wrenches, Deal has
had a solid 2011 season. Most believe it’s only a matter of time before he
parks the car in victory lane.
Kyle Clark / Sapulpa
OK: This young hard charger has had an up and down season but determination
is written all over him. A teammate to Danny Smith, Clark had his best 2011
finish last Saturday night with a sixth to add to five other top ten runs this
year. Momentum is extremely key in the world of sprint car racing and Clark will
attempt to keep the wheels going full tilt this Friday night. Watch out for the
blue number 9$ race car when it hits the track.
Tim Kent / Bristow
OK: One would be hard pressed not to find a more dedicated individual to
his racing activities as TK. With 100% OCRS attendance in 2010, TK has a
perfect attendance this season as well. All of TK’s top five runs have come
since mid season. As with his cousin Hotrod, a freshened powerplant has stepped
up his game. TK’s peers know when the #79 gets near, he will run you hard, very
hard.
While
fan attendance is typically quite good for OCRS sprint car action at OMS, with
the string of record breaking sweltering high temperatures finally broken, this
weekend will see the coolest and most comfortable temps since the start of the
2011 season. With that in mind, the Oil Capital Racing Series and Outlaw
Motor Speedway invite everyone to come witness some of the finest sprint car
racing action you will see in the area.
