Regrettably,Lakeside's owners have had to make the announcement that the 2011 season has come to an end.

Many fans have jumped in and offered to help with the cleanup and it will be gratefully accepted.

Watch for notice when the water has receded enough to begin.

I only wish I had been able to post the photo of the horrible track conditions. Well - with all of the water it was difficult to even see the perimeter of the track - and all of the outside of the track was under water too. If anyone knows how to post a photo - send me an email and I think I still have the photo.

You can see a bunch of aerial photos on facebook and look for "Save Lakeside Speedway".

This same thing happened to Nodak Speedway in Minot, ND. The even dug up the track and used the dirt as a dike around the brand new grandstands that were built last year. During the flood, you could barely see the fence around the outside of the track and that is 7 feet high. You can see photos at racenodak.com. The waters went down and the track was rebuilt and racing resumed a few weeks ago. Pretty amazing job with all the damage that had occurred to the facilities.

The worst part is that the track will get NO RELIEF until the river goes down. The drain that will take the water away is below the river level.Even pumping it will do no good because(as I understand it)there is nowhere to pump it to...... since the area is completely covered with water.

There are many willing hands that will step in and help when and if they can.Central Auto Racing Boosters, known as CARB,can even help organize and co-ordinate the recovery process as they have one of the most skilled organizers in the business for their President. J.D. Green and his wife Diana are not only longstanding officers but they also serve as two of the more diligent employees at Lakeside Speedway. We are blessed with the manpower to get the job done but will have to have the co-operation of Mother Nature and possibly the Army Corp of Engineers who appear to be in control.

Promoters and Track owners are not always the most beloved individuals but in this case they SHOULD be ! Marc and Page Olsen have become standard bearers in this area having instituted the Old Timers Celebration along with the now deceased Charlie and Betty Kraft. We're with you all the way and cannot wait to see the wheels roll again on what has become our favorite track.
