A segment of the casual fan base will buy the Turn2 package but just aren't interested in attending. Don't want to show the final night? Then why should anybody buy the prelim nights?
Want to show it tape delayed on a Saturday afternoon or at three in the morning a few weeks later? People aren't interested.
Not everybody is hard core like some are. You want to penalize them or call them names or would you rather understand what the market is and accomodate that segment of it?
Alot of people that like sprint car racing on an occasional basis would like to see the race but don't have any interest in attending at this time. You could accomodate them now for $20 a night or probably forget about ever having them as fans in the future.
Hell, I like the Super Bowl or the World Series but have no interest in ever attending. Why should this be any different.
There's more to life than sprint car racing. If it's there, it's there. If not...there are other things to get my entertainment dollar.

Live TV the way SPEED does it sucks.
But there is NO excuse for not letting Turn2 Media do Saturday night. Not having it live didn't help the crowd, which was only about 18,000 on Saturday night, anybody who tells you a different number, including BillW is full of s***. You can't believe anything that comes out of the fairboard office.
Don't give me the nonsense about a down economy, either. The suites were full. Hotel rooms in the Des Moines area were almost impossible to find (and they were expensive),.People spend money until the cost overrides the entertainment value, a trend which is hard, if not impossible to overcome, given today's competition for the entertainment dollar.
Don't penalize your fan base for your problems. Don't blame your customers for your failures.
Live video coverage isn't the problem. TV is a problem because it's not about covering the race.
Why not ban stop KNIA radio coverage? Drop the live results coverage on the Knoxville website? Stop Kendra Jacobs' tweeter page?
Knoxville and your 'foward thinking" fairboard controllers...you have a problem and it's not live media coverage that's killing your event. You are not renewing your fan base. I'll bet 50% of your fan base is going to be dead inside ten years. From what I've seen, you need to to put in more bathrooms and hire Alzheimers care if don't want to go after a younger base.
Good luck, you're going to need it!

From reading your post, its obvious that you were there. So why are you complaining about it not being on live tv? By the way your whinning, you must be one of the biggest spoiled brats around. Grow up and deal with it, its tape delayed whether you like it or not.

As a ticket buying fan, I like it tape delayed. Generally, that reduces down time for TV interview and commercial requirements. Of course, they proved that wrong on Saturday as there was plenty of downtime between races.
|
Support your track and buy tickets to see it live! Tape delay is better so the paying fans don't have to cater to live TV.

Frankly, I don't care whether it's tape delayed or not. If turn2 covers the final night, I pay for it..if not...that's fine too.
All I'm saying is that by not providing the live video feed from Turn2, you are turning away a segment of people who may have been there in the past or might be there in the future.
Why throw that away?
BTW...gotta love the name-calling. Easy to see why the fan base is eroding.

Also Trun 2 can not broadcast the final night due to the contract between Speed TV and the track. Speed has the rights to the video from the final night of the nationals.

Name calling is eroding the fan base??? Hahahahahaahahaha are you serious? How long you been around racing kid? You think people disagreeing and name calling is something that started in the last few years? That sort of thing has been going on since the 2nd car challenged the 1st. Guess what, it won't end anytime soon either. Anyone around this sport knows it goes with the territory and we all know it and deal with it. There's an old saying, "if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen."

I think the fact that you can't watch it live adds to the exclusivity of it. I'm not sure sprint car racing cares about 'markets' & 'target demographics' or other corporate capitalist mantra. do we really want to see sprint car racing blow up to the degree of nascar? not me. don't take it personally! there are way worse things to be called, than 'lazy'.

Broadcasting on SPEED has nothing to do with the fan base. It's all about accomodating sponsors. I agree, no live SPEED TV.
Turn2, on the other hand, is about bringing race coverage to the fan.
From some of these responses, I can see why the casual fan would prefer paying to watch the race at home, or lose interest in sprint car racing in general.

If I am correct, you have said previously that you could walk to the track in 10 minutes....I bet hearing the roar of the engines from your house was just eating away at you wasn't it!

No, the roar of the engines had no effect on me. I could have gone each night and not paid a dime. Instead, I paid for the Turn2 coverage. Just didn't want the hassle of being at the track. I did go Saturday night as a guest. I'd have paid for Saturday coverage from Turn2 if they would have done it.
No, I don't have any connection to Turn2 at all...just like the service. Like it or not, its the coming thing. Why not embrace it?
SPEED is terrible. If that was my only recourse, I'd have passed.
Unlike many of you, I LIKE the sport...but it doesn't consume me. I would not expect many of you to understand that.

When the internet can be "blacked out" for a distance of 200-250 miles from Knoxville, then Knoxville should think about involving Turn 2 media.
Or, the cost should be at least the same or more as attending.

Again, does the track want the money or not? The consumer ultimately sets the price. It's supply and demand. I like the NFL but don't buy their pay per view backage or the NFL Network. I like Baseball but don't want the MLB pay per view either. You may say I'm cheap but I'd say I'm an involved consumer. I know what the value of a product is to me and don't worry about anybody else.

I wont watch it if it is on t. v.T.V. doesnt do knoxville or sprint cars justice. I like to see it live thats why i go. My only complaint was the timing , line up signs in the backstreatch werent there. Other than that it was a great 4 days of racing.

ok lots of things about sprint777x do not add up, says he lives close to the track, very casual fan, but just recently joined, and complains about net coverage? might be legit or might be someone related or vested into turn 2 media,

I don't get what kind of fan calls being at the track a hassle? Yeah
it is crowded, but seriously?! That is all part of the experience...
all of the vendors... fans from around the world...not to mention you get to control who you watch.
How about they just completely convert sprint car racing to video
games. Then Turn2 could televise the nationals and nobody would have to
worry about hassling with going to the track. Give me a break!

So basically your bitching about going for free on Saturday night and not getting to pay to watch it on your computer. Also you pay during the week to watch on your computer when its going on in your backyard? Because its a hassle? But yet your saying your concerned about people losing interest in our great sport? You seem like a walking contridiction there kid.
