Cottage Grove Speedway Hosts Final
Leg Of Ore-Cal Challenge
By Ben Deatherage
Cottage Grove, Oregon- For the fifth
time of 2011 the Interstate Sprint Car Series will be on hand at the Cottage
Grove Speedway in its inaugural season. This Sunday, the 12th,
will host the third and final night of action for the first ever Ore-Cal
Challenge.
The Ore-Cal Challenge consists of
three nights of racing at three different tracks. Friday night starts off
at the Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka, CA while Saturday night will be at the
Southern Oregon Speedway in White City. The series will make their first
visits to the two aforementioned tracks and will have the group hosting eight
races at four different race tracks after the weekend is over.
So far in 2011 four ISCS main events
have been won by Roger Crockett three at the Cottage Grove Speedway and one at
the Coos Bay Speedway. Crockett come goes into the weekend the standings
leader but due to scheduling he will not be on hand for all three races.
Seth Bergman is the only other winner for the series winning the Welt &
Welt Inc. 30 on July 3rd at the Cottage Grove Speedway.
“This is a real cool deal for these
teams in the Northwest that have nothing really to do,” said Series Director
Brian Crockett, “The core group of cars that regularly run the series are
getting better and better and really any can win any given night the way the
format is and the way the dash can make things interesting too.”
The Cottage Grove Speedway
hosted their annual Historical Night last Saturday evening with a
non-sanctioned 360 Sprint race and seen seven-time champ Dale Smith return to
victory lane in front of his hometown crowd. Zack Spaulding the current
Limited Sprint point leader won the feature for his class and ran fourth in the
360 feature. Expect to see a large car count of drivers from all over the
Northwest as the ISCS continues to gain more and more notoriety after each event.
It will be the last point race for
the series as they will not race all the way till October for the Championship
Weekend. The series will be sanctioning three races in four nights in
Western Montana next week week but those races will be for non-points.
The Interstate Sprint Car Series is
a brand new winged 360 sprint car series primarily based out of Oregon but will
sanction and host races in Montana and California. The series is slated
at ten total point events reaching as far north as the Cottage Grove Speedway
and as far south as the Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka, California. The
series currently has a current sum total of $9,000, but growing, end of the
year points fund that will be awarded at the end of the season. For any
