Southern Oregon Speedway Hosts Second
Night Of Ore-Cal Challenge
By Ben Deatherage
Cottage Grove, Oregon- The
Interstate Sprint Car Series heads to two different racetracks this coming
weekend one the Northern California venue of the Siskiyou Motor Speedway in
Yreka on Friday the 12th while Saturday the 13th will be
the Southern Oregon Speedway in White City. The three upcoming races will
mark another benchmark to the already successful season hosting three races at
three different tracks for the inaugural Ore-Cal Challenge. Despite the
series’ first visit to the venue it not will be the first visit for several of
the teams as they have throughout their careers been on hand at the track
situated just outside of Medford/Central Point area.
“Southern Oregon Speedway is one of
those wildcard tracks where some of the most unlikely drivers have good luck
while others struggle,” said Series Director Brian Crockett, “the track has
held some local shows this year but there are some big bucks on the line so the
crowd should enjoy our tour coming to town.”
Four other support classes will be
on hand for the night including the Super 4’s, Dwarf Cars, Mini Stocks, and
Thrill Cars. Already hosting two shows this season Seth Bergman from
Washington and local driver Vern Wheeler.
It truly is anyone’s race to win as
Roger Crockett, the driver who has four victories in five starts, is out of
town for the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa. Expect to see a
healthy mix of ISCS regulars, Southern Oregon Speedway drivers, and some
Northern California flavor in the mix.
Racing is slated to start around 7
PM for the event. The series after
Saturday night will head into the final leg of the Ore-Cal Challenge to the
Cottage Grove Speedway. The series will then head for three sanctioned
but non-point events into Western Montana for the Showdown in Big Sky Country.
The Interstate Sprint Car Series is a brand new winged 360 sprint car series
primarily based out of Oregon but will sanction and host races in Montana and
California. The series is slated at ten total point events reaching as
far north as the Cottage Grove Speedway and as far south as the Siskiyou Motor
Speedway in Yreka, California. The series currently has a current sum
total of $9,000, but growing, end of the year points fund that will be awarded
at the end of the season. For any teams or drivers wishing to learn more
