While all eyes decend on Knoxville for the biggest race in the world...we still have a pretty BIG non sanctioned show to run here in Central PA this weekend. Yeah we lost a few teams that have headed west already, but this one pays pretty damn well! I can't wait 'til Saturday night...and I love the format!

Port Living Legends Dream Race Saturday, format and presentations announced 8/2/11 Port Royal –

The 2011 Living Legends Dream Race 5 for sprint cars at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday August 6 will be highlighted by the presentation of awards to Living Legend honorees, driver Keith Kauffman and car owner Walt Dyer. Presentation of awards to Kauffman and Dyer will take place on the stage following time trials. Qualifications are slated to begin at 7:30 PM. Prior to that time, numerous Dyer drivers and Kauffman car owners will join for an autograph session along with Dyer and Kauffman themselves, behind the grandstand at 5 PM. On display will be up to seven restored and current race cars linked to both Dyer and Kauffman, including Dyer No. 461 cars as raced by Lance Dewease and Billy Stief along with Kauffman’s original Blue Deuce machine.

The 2011 Living Legends Dream Race will be a 40-lap feature paying at least $12,000 to win with time trials, heats, B main and a dash to set the field. Over $1,000 will be awarded to the fast-timer. The format for a car count that merits four heats will find the top 16 time-trialers inverted for the eight-lap qualifiers with five drivers transferring to the main from each heat race.

Each heat will pay $300 to win and contingency prizes will be awarded to the second through fifth-place finishers. The top two finishers from each heat along with the fastest two drivers who transfer through the heats but fail to get into the top two finishing positions will transfer to a 10-car, six-lap dash. The finish of the dash will determine the front starting positions for the Dream Race. An inversion of four, six or eight will be drawn to determine the starting lineup for the dash. The event will pay $300 to win and it will also determine who gets the pivotal front row starting spots for the feature and the opportunity to take the Lelands.com Dream Race Challenge in Memory of Marion Ritzman worth another $12,000.

If one of the front row starters opts to give up his starting position and can start at the rear and claim the event, he will take home a hefty $24,000! A Hard Charger Award in Memory of Ed Swartz worth more than $1,000 will also be up for grabs and a full B Main purse has been posted. Pasquariello’s Auto Shop of Northhampton will award the leader of lap 27 in the Dream Race with $270.

Pro stocks are on the Saturday card with gates slated to open at 4 PM. Warm ups are planned for 7 PM. Adult general admission for the event will be $27.00 with students ages 12 – 17 admitted for just $10.00

The “Living Legends” Dream Race 5 is sponsored by Brown’s Funeral Home, Mifflintown; First National Bank, Mifflintown; Lingle’s Distributing, Lewistown, Lelands.com, Bohemia, NY., and Terry and Shane Ritzman, Millerstown. Additional sponsorship comes from: Tilton Hilton, Ken’s Coins & Jewelry, 21st Century Fireplace, Jack Gaughen Hower & Associates, C. H. Burns Inc., RE Davidson & Sons, Grid Iron Pub, Juniata Beverage, Pasquariello’s Auto Shop, York County Racing Club and Thompsontown Corner Deli along with numerous individual race benefactors. Talk about a race that needs to be moved.

Yeah. It just seems weird when a good portion of the bonuses are coming from Pittman's sponsors (one of them even being based on his car number), and he won't even be there to run the race.

The perfect date would have been this past weekend July 30th.
