Edwards Claims First Career NCRA Southern Sport Mod Victory!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Salina, Oklahoma – July 30, 2011 - Triple B Oil Field Services of Elk City, Oklahoma rookie of the year contender Kinzer Edwards finally put it all together as he took the lead early and was never seriously challenged the rest of the way to claim his first career Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products southern sport modified feature event Saturday night as the tour made their first ever appearance atop the Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma.

Tate Cole, making his first ever appearance with the tour, started on the pole for the twenty lap feature but it was Triple B Oil Field Services rookie contender Devin Gerrior taking the lead from his outside front row starting position. Gerrior, working the top side of the three-eighths mile oval led the first lap before Cole, using the low line, took over the top spot entering turns three and four to lead lap two.

The first caution of the event would then wave when Tony Osborn hit the backstretch wall causing damage to his car, ending his night early.

The restart lineup saw Cole out front followed by Gerrior, Chad McNamara, Edwards and Todd Decker. However, mechanical gremlins would see McNamara, who came into the night as the current series points leader, retire to the pit area early with a 19th place finish.

When racing action resumed, Edwards, who started eighth, worked his way to the front on the double file restart behind the leader and quickly took over the runner up position.

Racing action would slow two laps later when Triple B Oil Field Services rookie contender Zachery Tippett also hit the backstretch wall to bring out the caution.

Cole got the jump on the restart and led lap five but Edwards began making his move and got underneath the leader in turns three and four to take the lead on lap six.

Edwards would cruise out front and while two more cautions later in the event would slow the pace and bunch the cars up on restarts, nobody had anything for the sixteen year old South Coffeyville rookie.

However, while Edwards kept the field at bay, the battle behind him was two and even three cars wide. Defending series champion Decker would get around Cole on a lap nine restart to take over the runner up position while behind him, rookie contenders Brandon Smith and J.D. Choate challenged Cole for position the last half of the event with positions changing virtually each lap.

But in the end it was Edwards, aboard the C&G Racing #9, claiming the fifteen car length victory over Decker, who would unofficially close to within five points of the lead in the current point standing due to McNamra's DNF. Tenth starting Smith would come home third while Choate settled for fourth. Travis Johnson got around Cole in the closing laps to claim the fifth position.

While having a rough time in his heat race, Ross McCartney worked his way up from his twentieth starting position and would come home ninth to become the races hard charger.

The three, eight lap heat races for the twenty-three car field were won by Osborn, Cole and Gerrior.

The next scheduled event for the Bob Howard PDC and Mopar NCRA of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products southern sport modified division will be held on Saturday night, August 20th at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas.
