Salina Highbanks Speedway This Saturday for NCRA Southern Sport Mods!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – July 25, 2011 - Fresh off his first career series victory just two weeks ago during the annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals, current series points leader Chad McNamara of Pond Creek, Oklahoma will lead the Bob Howard P.D.C and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products southern sport modified division into uncharted territory as they make their first ever appearance to Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma this coming Saturday night.

McNamara, who picked up the inaugural series championship back in 2009 and took the year off last year, has led the point standings for most of the season, without the benefit of reaching victory lane. But all that changed two weeks ago as he found victory lane at the 55th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals in Hutchinson, Kansas. This, coupled with poor finishes from the top challengers, has enabled the former Enid Street Stock Nationals champion to extend his points lead to 85 points over defending series champion Todd Decker of Edmond, Oklahoma with just three events remaining on the current 2011 race schedule.

This Salina event will be the eighth different scheduled venue in the nine events that have been held and third new track for the third year series. Tracks the tour has visited thus far include 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas, Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas, Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, Crawford County Speedway in Van Buren, Arkansas, Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kansas, Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma and Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Oklahoma.

Through the eight events that have been completed, seven different drivers have reached victory lane. They include Triple B Oil Field Services of Elk City, Oklahoma rookie of the year points leader Brandon Smith (81 Speedway), Randy Timms (Thunderbird Speedway), Robert Elliott (Beaver County Raceway), Kelly Cross (Route 66 Motor Speedway), Levi McGowen (Caney Valley Speedway), McNamara and the only driver to have reached victory lane twice in 2011 – Travis Johnson (Crawford County Speedway and 81 Speedway).

Series regulars expected to compete this weekend for the $500 to win, $100 to start event include fifth through tenth in driver point standings Ross McCartney, Landon Maddox, series rookie contenders Kinzer Edwards, J.D. Choate, Zachery Tippett, Bobby McGehee and Devin Gerrior. Also expected to compete are Kip Hughes, Johnie Rauschenberg, Brian Parker and Frank Graven along with other drivers from Northeastern Oklahoma and southern Kansas.

After a five year hiatus of seeing no racing action whatsoever on one of the highest three-eighths banked clay ovals in the state of Oklahoma, Bob Goins and Keith Sanders bought the property late last summer, made enormous improvements to the facility and brought weekly racing back to Northeastern Oklahoma in early April. Car counts have steadily been growing as well as the fan support.

Gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing scheduled for 7:00 PM. General admission prices are just $10 for adults, children 6-15 years of age $6 while children five and under admitted free. Pit passes are $30.

The Salina Highbanks Speedway is located seven miles east of Pryor on OK Hwy 20. For more race or ticket information, contact the track (918) 434-RACE.

I'll be there. I'm the track photog. A very nice facility, usually very smooth and fast.
