Looking at getting a 305 sprint car here in the future and have some general questions. Now I didnt know where to post this because some of the other forums seem to not have as much traffic.
What is the overall height of a sprint car minus the wing and wing tree? Only reason i ask is, I dont have a huge garage but I just wanna make sure it will fit in my one bay garage at least with the wing off.
Also any ideas on chassis selection? I am looking for a car and seen some good 99's and early 2000's. My question is how old is to old?

The chassis layout really hasn't changed much at all since Maxim came out with the "K" car chassis design in the early 90's....all you need is a straight chassis for a 305 car.....I won plenty of 305 features in a 13 year old Gambler a few years ago...
Without the wing the car is about 6inches to a foot shorter than you are standing up....if your garage door opening is 6 and a half or 7 ft tall you won't have any trouble getting it in without the wing on....even if you leave the trees on the car.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

thanks. i am looking for something to slowly put together while I transition out of karting. I think my door may only be around 6 foot tall. So I should be okay. I am under the impression that most of the items such as axles, king pins, steering arms, torsion arms, etc. are fairly universal? I found a few nice chassis with body panels, motor plate, floor pans for around $500 or so. Also seen a couple newer ones for around $1000 to $1500.

Most stuff will interchange, but rear torsion arms do come in different lengths and offsets depending on what chassis you get. Also, the length of the radius rods and jacobs ladder will vary also. If you get a chassis from a builder that's still in business, you can probably get those measurements off their website or else just call them. Most will be happy to help.
Good luck!
