“We don’t get the coverage we used to get 20-25 years ago,’’ says Hahn. “In its heyday at the Tulsa fairgrounds we were on the front page on Sunday and we had press conferences for TV and newspapers. We were getting 10,000 fans and high school football was getting 200-300. The newspapers got on to high school football and it’s completely turned around.

‘’The promoters don’t prepare tracks like they need to and they have too many classes and they run too late. You need a good, quick show so people can come out and stay and watch it. It comes down to common sense and a lot of work.’’

AMEN, and the second paragraph goes a long way towards explaining the first. The late shows made it easy for the papers to jump.

Sure hope they get it turned around. The lack of sprint shows in the area is killing me!

That being said (and I know this is off topic) I went to Ada a couple of weeks back for the OCRS and was highly impressed with the speed around the track. The track conditions were about as dusty as I've been around, but really can't blame them much; pretty amazing task these tracks have in this incredible heat wave. IMO, Ada is a hidden-gem; would love to see a 410 show there with a well watered track! I'll bet the lap times would suprise some people!

Do tracks actually rip a track up and water it as they roll it back in. Or do they just bring the dirt from the top back down to bottom and water it. I've always wonder how much track prep goes into a weekly show. With all the rubber being laid down these days water can't penetrate the surface. It just sets there, evaporates or runs off.
