McNamara Claims First NCRA Sport Mod Victory During Hutchinson Grand Nationals!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Hutchinson, Kansas – July 16, 2011 - For years Chad McNamara has competed in just about everything to win one the Hutchinson Grand Nationals and each time the Pond Creek, Oklahoma driver would come up short. But that would not be the case on the completion of the 55th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals as he took the lead with just a hand full of laps to go to not only claim the "Mid Summer Classic" but finally break into victory lane with the Bob Howard P.D.C by Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products southern sport modified tour Saturday night at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Triple B Oil Field Services of Elk City, Oklahoma rookie contender Kinzer Edwards of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma and current rookie point's leader Brandon Smith of Amarillo, Texas started on the front row for the fifteen lap feature with Edwards jumping out into the lead atop the big fairgrounds half mile oval.
Smith settled into the runner up position while third starting McNamara, Brian Parker and Ross McCartney were the top five drivers as Edwards opened up a five car length lead.
With Edwards comfortably out front the battle for the runner up position was a side by side battle with McNamara working the top and Smith down low. McNamara, aboard the #327 L.E.S Raglin/McCartney Welding/Ponca Machine sponsored Biscuit Built chassis would then take over the runner up position and quickly close the leaders advantage to two car lengths by lap five.
McNamara, who came into the night tied with Travis Johnson of Enid atop the point standings, would be glued to the leader's bumper for several laps while behind them; Brian Parker would challenge Smith for the third position.
With the two front runners continuing to battle for the lead on lap four, Edwards would get a bit sideways entering turn four allowing McNamara to squeeze by and take the lead. While this was taking place, Parker would dispose of Smith for the runner up position as Edwards would drop back to the fourth position.
Parker had closed to within a couple of car lengths to try to get close enough for a challenge but would run out of laps with McNamara holding on to claim his first career series victory.
"It's about time I got one of these," said an elated McNamara. "The car really did work good tonight and were lucky enough to get by Kinzer there in turn four and hold on."
Parker settled for second, five car lengths behind, while Smith would come home third. Edwards settled for fourth while McCartney rounded out the top five in the caution free feature.
Johnson started last in the twenty-one car feature and had worked his way up into the top ten before mechanical gremlins forced him to retire from the event early resulting in an 18th place finish.
Next up for the Bob Howard P.D.C by Mopar NCRA of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products southern sport modified division will be the tour's first ever appearance atop the Salina High Banks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma on Saturday night, July 30th.
