Points Heat Up for NCRA Southern Sport Mods Heading into Hutch Nationals!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas - July 11, 2011 - A dead heat. Yes, we could be talking about this Saturday nights 55th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals featuring the Bob Howard P.D.C. National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas southern sport modified division. But instead we are talking about the chase for the division championship as we have a two way tie for the top spot in the point standings with another driver just thirty points out of the lead.
Inaugural series champion Chad McNamara of Pond Creek, winless on the tour just as he was when he picked up his first series championship back in 2009, and the all-time series southern sport modified feature winner Travis Johnson of Enid are locked at the top spot of the standings. Defending series champion Todd Decker of Edmond, Oklahoma is only thirty points behind and all three will lead the close to twenty-five cars expected for their second ever appearance at the Mid-Summer Classic.
Donny Raney of Amarillo, Texas notched the first ever southern sport modified Hutchinson Grand Nationals crown back in 2009 with the 2010 version being cancelled due to rain, drivers from at least three states are hoping to claim victory in this prestigious event.
Brandon Smith of Amarillo currently sits fourth the point standings and leads the Triple B Oil Field Services of Elk City, Oklahoma rookie of the year point standings. He is currently 16 points ahead of Ponca City rookie J.D. Choate, 30 points behind Newalla, Oklahoma's Zachery Tippett and 35 points ahead of Bobby McGehee Drummond, Oklahoma.
Thus far this 2011 race season, seven events have been held with six drivers all claiming victories with only Johnson the repeat winner on the tour. Other drivers with victories include Smith, Randy Timms, Robert Elliott, Kelly Cross and Levi McGowen.
Counting this weekend's Hutchinson Grand Nationals, four races remain on the current schedule and still anybody's race to become the third NCRA southern sport modified champion.
This huge one night event for the NCRA modified tour at the Hutchinson Grand Nationals on Saturday night will see the grandstand gates open at 5:30 PM with race time set for a 7:30 PM start time. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults and $5 for ages 6-10 years of age. The series' sprint car and modified divisions will also be competing in this huge one night event.
