From Kip Hughes I have a tape from October of 1987 where Col. C's Speeddrome in Wichita Falls hosted a big late model, stock car race in which I recognise alot of drivers from Oklahoma area.
My question is, why did the Col. C's track shut down? I was at that big late model race and I was there when one of the original ASCS speedweek tours made a stop there ('94-95) where Mike Ward used the very top of the track and came from the back to pass everybody in sight. One hell of a show.
Just wondering why the track closed.

Simple. Poor profits. It became a softball field like Tulsa Speedway. Bet that made less money.

Hey Kip, I was there in 1988 wrenching for Bookout when your dad parked on the front straight and said he wasn't racing untill they put water on the track. That was when we had the OTRA. All the Enid boys kicked as that weekend!

One of the reason is that the City was building south where the track was on Hwy 281 South of the city. The neborihood didnt like the sound and stuff so they had stricter rules on what the track could do and not do. I know personly because my uncle chariles allen run the speedway the last 2 years it was open along with quartz mountian speedway in Oklahoma. It close after the 1994 season and then the Asphalt track open in 1995. And to this day Wichita Falls Track One Dirt, One Ashpalt and the Drag Strips.
