Had a racer tell me one time....A race track is like a garden, you can water the garden like crazy and it won't grow. Then a rain shower comes through, look out!!.......How many times have we seen that to be true.

When the vetran driver I was working for went to part time he put his 16 year old Son in the car and told him "Run close to the wall because when you hit it, it won't wreck as much stuff as if you come all the way from the bottom of the track!!"

We were hanging around the pit area of The Tempe Tornado after a CRA show at Huset's. Lealand was reminiscing about racing at some of the tracks in the area. Someone mentioned that they no longer raced sprintcars in Fairmont, MN., to which he replied, "Streetstocks?!?!? How does that track keep a promoter?!?!"

After a dirt midget race in California on ESPN back in the 90s, the winning driver's response to the interviewer's question "What is the key to winning at this track?" was: "Stand on the gas and don't hit the wall." I think the driver's last name was Cofer?
My favorite stock car quote, which could be applied to some sprint car tracks, comes from Mark Martin (I think) about racing at Bristol: "Like flying jet fighters in a gymnasium."
John Force - "Don't lift until you see Elvis"
The memory is fuzzy, so apologies for any inaccuracies!

From the late Chris Murray when warned that he was extremely close to hitting the wall coming off of the #4 turn..."That stationary stuff dont bother me, its the idiots out there moving around that will tear up your stuff.
One of my own from when the late Tom Folk warned me about not holding my line on the first lap..."When I paid my entry fee I paid to use the whole track!"

These are some quotes I wrote down from a similar thread several years ago. Several have already been mentioned here, but these are the ones that haven't made it into this thread, yet.
Gary Wright: "For years we thought Steve Kinser was God. We didn't realize he was just driving God's car."
Bobby Allen: " A creative mess is better than idle tidyness."
Don Lamb: "It'll do a half hour in twenty minutes."
A couple of my favorites, which show the contrast in thinking from years ago as compared to today, go something like this (one, if not both of these, belong to Bobby Allen) "It gets a paint job once a year, need it or not" and "Paint don't make it go fast."

First time I ever heard the " jet fighters in a gymnasium " was from Dick Trickle.
I "think" he was talking about Winchester Speedway . I also have heard the remark
about " filling up Bristol with water and go fishing " credited to Kyle Petty, again I
first heard it from Trickle about Rockford Speedway in Illinois .

He doesn't need the lord on his side to win races...Hell I don't even think he needs a good race car.

One of the best engine builders in Western Australia - Geoff Kendrick - has a big sign hanging from the ceiling of his shop.
"Speed costs money - how fast do you want to go?"
