Late this Wednesday afternoon, C Ray Hall and Speedways Inc. got a contract back from the Enid fairboard.

The first race will be Sunday, July 31st and each last Sunday of each month of August and September PLUS the winter nationals.

More details concerning what classes of cars and more are forthcoming so please don't ring the speedways office phone off the wall as this just broke late this afternoonQ

This is great news for the people of Enid. Yes, I know it is not weekly racing but at least it is not a track sitting idle. C Ray will be a good thing for the track,

I would like to see the people around Enid to get involved with helping C. Ray make Enid what it was not to long ago. If you can volunteer to help him at the track, spread the word about races that are coming up, ect. What ever it takes, lets help keep C. Ray around and make Enid Speedway successful once again.

Following the sudden departure of former Enid Speedway promoter Ed Beckley on June 7, Chisholm Trail Expo Center Director Steve Barnes confirmed Tuesday the signing of a new contract for the remainder of the 2011 racing season.

The new promoter is C. Ray Hall of 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kan. The new agreement calls for races on July 31, Aug. 28, Sept. 25 and the Winter Nationals Oct. 28-30.

“I am very happy C. Ray Hall is coming in and doing the racing shows,” Barnes said. “It is a great step forward for the fairgrounds, racing and the racing fans.

“We are very happy with the deal. It was one of those things where his existing schedule would only allow for one show a month this time around. It will give the racers and the fans something to look forward to.”

In addition, Hall has joined forces with promoter James Long-pine on the use of track equipment for prep-aring the 3?8 mile, high-banked dirt oval for racing action..

“Mr. Longpine offering to come in and help is a great advantage for C. Ray,” Barnes said. “They have had a great relationship and I’m glad they get along as well as they do.

“It will make the transition much easier.”

According to officials at 81 Speedway, Hall will promote racing in the modifieds, sports modifieds, street stocks, factory stocks, pure stocks, adult bombers divisions and youth bombers for children ages 13-16.

“Our goal is to come in and rebuild the racing to where it needs to be,” Hall said. “We hope to build it up to where it used to be at Enid Speedway. We will start the races at 6 p.m. and get everybody out at a decent time. We all have to be back to work on Monday.”

With racing beginning at 6 p.m., the gates will open at 4 p.m. Ticket prices will be $10 for adult grandstand seats, $5 for children ages 5-11 and free to children under five.

The promotion of the speedway for 2012 and 2013 is up in the air.

Barnes said a bidding process would occur after this season for the next two years. Because the track is overseen by the Fairgrounds Trust Authority, Barnes said the trust cannot legally sign any promoter to a contract more than two years.

“The promoters have to re-bid every two years,” Barnes said. “Unless everybody is happy with each other then there might not be any reason why we can’t renew.

“It takes two sides to be happy or unhappy for the deal to happen or not.”

Hall is a veteran promoter and has a strong reputation in the racing industry.

“C. Ray is a great man,” Barnes said. “He is very respectful and very understanding of the history of the track. He has been a gentleman on this deal and it was great we reached an agreement. I can’t say enough good things about him.

In recent weeks, Barnes has felt the fallout from the Beckley deal that went sour without a signed contract and as the director of the Expo Center, Barnes said he shoulders the entire responsibility.

“The Fairgrounds Trust Authority and the Fairgrounds knows the tradition we have at the Enid Speedway,” he said. “We have no intent of letting it die. I’m sorry the last two years haven’t worked out. I went in the wrong direction.

“I am truly sorry for the inconvenience it has caused the racers and the fans but we will make it right.

“We know how many race tracks are still operating and how many people go to these tracks, so we want them to come into Enid for a race in 2011 and keep coming back as we get ready for 2012 and 2013.”

This is just my opinion but it is highly unlikely. 81 runs Sat nights and C Ray is always there. Now, if he can get someone that he trusts to run the show at Enid then I can see it happening.
