BREAKING USAC NEWS: Terre Haute Silver Crown Canceled After Crash!
by Ross Wece for Dirt Dog TV Terre
Haute, IN | Jul 03 2011 5:58pm CT - Ross Wece reports that the USAC
Silver Crown race at the Terre Haute Action Track has been CANCELED
after just a 1/2 lap of action due to EXTREMELY dusty conditions
limiting fan & driver visibility. Officials pushed
everyone back to the infield after San Jose, California's Thomas
Meseraull crashed hard on the back stretch on the opening lap, bringing
out the red flag. (see photo) Ross reports that the dust was so bad
that you could not see the track from the stands or the infield by the
time the cars crossed the starting line at the drop of the green.
Meseraull was OK and we'll have a post crash interview posted later tonight.

I read that the grounds were so saturated that they had to pit on gravel, but the track was dusty enough to cancel the event? Also, Jeff Swindell posted on Facebook that he "just took his last green flag at Terre Haute"......

I was there, it was ridiculous. T-Mez's flip was in the middle of the backstretch, not the first corner. As soon as the red flag came out all the drivers got out of there cars and walked away. It was so bad you couldn't see people sitting 5 rows in front of you. At the drop of the green the cars in back were going about 30 mph down the frontstretch under green because they couldn't see anything. The track was saturated at the beginning of the day and they spent 3 hours working it until it was bone-dry. Practice was scheduled for 11:30 but didn't start until after 2:00 so they could work the moisture out of the track, but they seemed to think it was proper to work ALL of the moisture out of the track. This was my first and possibly last time to the action track. I've been to 29 different dirt tracks, and I've never seen anything like it. And the USAC press release blamed it on the rain they got the night before! Ridiculous!

I've been to the Action Track. It use to be one of the legendary tracks for all of Sprints. Wish I would have pursued getting my Motorsports Marketing degree at Indiana University there. Then stayed to help them run a track.

uhhh, Indiana University is in Bloomington. That would be Indiana State in Terre Haute. And I think the Action Track needs more help than you could give them!

Oh, WOW!!! Might as well try and race in a tornado!
That is bar none the worst video or in person dust bowl I have ever seen! How is it that hard to keep that track wet? It is flat! not like the moister runs down the banking.
I think I just cried a tear, for a legendary track that is going down a $**t drain. Even a lot of NASCRAP drivers can hold thanks to the Old Action track. 'Indy' car drivers too.

There was still moisture under the surface too, you could see it when they started to dig it up after the red flag.

you say you could't see people sitting 5 rows in front of you. from the posted vid that seems to be because there was no one sitting five rows ahead. looks like empty stands.

I'm confused as to why they ran this race in the day time in the first place?

If drivers would work together crap like this shouldn't happen. They should have stood together, made a stand, and said we wont pull out on to this track until it is fixed. They had to know how bad it was before they ever pulled out on it to race.Stick together!
