Big J Report Presented by DeBerg Concrete
18 410s
Welcome Mat
Johnn Cressman signs in for the first time in preparation of next Sunday’s
World of Outlaw show.
MIA
Scott Winters, Logan Forler, and everyone that was at Grand Forks for the
weekend.
VIP
Bosma24 AND Savage (no shit huh!)
back at their favorite race track. DeBerg gets back to the racetrack after
missing the two McCarl victories the previous two weeks. Sources also report a
Big Game sighting in the vicinity as well. And you can’t forget the Big Game
girls coming in late to catch the second half of the ‘A’. Great scenery about 10 rows down below us as well.
Time Trials
Due to pre-race festivities at 212, the gang was unable to catch qualifying
time trials. But it looks like Terry McCarl was quickest at 11.191 seconds
around the 3/10 mile track (thanks to Google Maps for the accuracy). Chad Meyer
was second quick followed by Mark Dobmeier,Lynton Jeffrey, and Austin McCarl. The fastest twelve times were
inverted for heat racing action.
Heat Races 8 Laps, Invert of 6, and Top 6 getting their time back for
the ‘A’.

1 Finish: 14 4 56 13 101 97/ 51 17A (DNF) 55
Notes: Rosenboom shot off to the lead with a bunch of action
going on behind him. Dobmeier got around A-Mac for fourth early on and then all
hell broke loose going down the backstretch on lap two. Cressman causes
Dobmeier to spin out down the backstretch with the McCarl’s trying to go high
around Dobmeier. T-Mac climbed his son’s rear tire and ended up flipping into
turn three. The car went out back for repairs, A-Mac was done with a flat tire,
while Dobmeier was able to restart. More on this later.
After the restart, Dobmeier and McGillivray had a great
battle for fourth with Dobs getting it on the last lap while Rosenboom checked
out for his second heat win of the year.

Heat 2
Finish: 3 33 11x 12 1w 99J/ 212 1x P51
Heat 2 Notes: Jeffrey jumped to third coming off the bottom
of turn two while Wolfgang snagged the early lead. Bakker was able to get back
by Jeffrey on the opening lap coming off the top of turn four. A great 8-lapper
was going on up front between Peterson and Wolfgang. Peterson was able to catch
Wolfgang at the white flag and grabbed his first career 410 heat victory in
photo-finishing fashion coming off the curb in turn four. Pretty good action in
the heat races, other than Cressman causing havoc. The beer grader is brought
out at 8:10 for the second time in six nights of racing. Allowing DeBerg to
leave his area and to come on over for some good, old-fashioned Big J luck…

Notes: Peterson had the early lead but was eventually called back for A-Mac
getting out of line too early and passing a couple rows of cars before the
green was shown. Hansen grabbed the next start off the top of turn two until
T-Mac spun on lap two over in turn four. Carlson spun on the next restart as
well in turn one after the start.
Bakker moved into third on the lap two restart while T-Mac
pulled it in with worsening steering problems. Bakker then moved up into second
with a pretty slidejob in turn two on Peterson on lap four. Dobmeier was coming
from his fourth row starting spot and took third from Peterson a lap after
Bakker passed him. As those two worked forward, Hansen put major distance on
the field by hammering the cushion in open track. Just as Hansen was about to
get into traffic, the caution flew for a stopped McGillivray at the bottom of
turn two, while Brink knocked out the front end trying to get by.
The restart on lap nine had Hansen ahead of Bakker,
Dobmeier, Cressman, and Jeffrey. Dobmeier got by Bakker off the bottom of turn
four after the restart and set his sights on Hansen, who was looking for his
first career 410 win at the track. Jeffrey moved up to fourth by Cressman as
Dobmeier caught and passed Hansen just before the halfway mark in turn two. A
lap later, Meyer launched into the sky after hitting the turn one wall. Luckily
Chad was okay after a vicious and scary wreck.
This restart with 12 to go had Dobmeier pacing Hansen,
Bakker, and Jeffrey to the green. Bakker put another beautiful slider into turn
one off the restart. Jeffrey picks off Hansen and then Bakker on his patented
bottom line to move up to second with 11 to go. Bakker doesn’t give it up
easily and the two put on a great race for the spot for a good lap with Bakker
winning the battle. Most of the eyes were on the younger McCarl as he started marching
to the front. He was up to fifth with five to go after blowing by Cressman.
Jeffrey wasn’t done with Bakker either by catching him with
two to go to grab that second position off the bottom of turn two. Dobmeier
went onto be the first repeat winner of the year, his 39th career
410 win at Huset’s, and picked up the $2,500 winning check. Jeffrey hung onto
second ahead of Bakker, Rosenboom, and the hard-charger A. McCarl. Hansen led
laps 1-12, Dobmeier leading laps 13-25.

This ‘N That:
*Big crowd on Father’s Day and great weather as well for
everybody. Looks like the races started pretty close to 7pm sharp, and were
over at a very reasonable time – 9:45 after the 410 feature. Of course, the
Report loves having the b-mod spinout-fest after the 410 feature while we are
all out back.
*Gregg Bakker and Dave Lunstra shouldn’t have to ever buy a
beer again at the track of local bar. Six nights of 410 racing, and six awesome
race tracks. Even if it takes a 10 minute break to grade the track, no one
should ever complain if it keeps providing the racing it has. There have been
sliders galore and the cushion is a lot closer to the fence this year than in
the past.
*Savage provides great entertainment while having to suffer through some downtime. It was great
having him back in the stands along with Bosma24. Sadly, both of them will not
be making the trek to Princeton due to prior obligations. DudeFan is going to
have to pick the slack on Saturday to fill Savage’s giant shoes. Also, the
Bosma/DeBerg jinx is starting to get eerie. They no-show’s for two weeks
resulting in two McCarl victories. They finally show up only to have both have
bad luck in the heat and have to start in the back – oofta.
*Speaking of DeBerg, on his way over to talk to us he wins
the damn 50/50 raffle for a good $300+ pot! After telling him where Hot Rod was
conducting intermission, a great interview between the two occurred with a lot
of talk being about yours truly and this space here. I can now advertise that all of the Report’s
sponsors have won a 50/50 raffle this year. So who wants to come on board for
the Nationals and heightened hope of bringing home with thousands of dollars on
one of the four nights?!
*Next week is a race fan’s dream with the Big Game 410
Special at Jackson on Friday, Outlaws on Saturday at Princeton, and them again
on Sunday at Huset’s. Gonna be a fun week, and let’s hope Mother Nature’s firm
grip is loosened and we get all three shows in! And who knows who will show up
Friday at Jackson…?
*Cressman caused all the crap to happen in the first heat. Then
he was trying to wad other people’s stuff towards the end of the feature. It’s
pretty safe to say that the teams have not missed him to start the year up
here.
*No Report last week as Monday was just a horrible day for
me. And that had nothing to do with Bosma24 turning a year older that day!
Congrats to Terry on collecting win #85 last Sunday and sorry for the
non-report, but he understood regarding the circumstances. Story time with Uncle Terry last week didn't disappoint either.
*Dobmeier walked away with a relatively easy win. Good to
see them have some good luck after getting upside down twice last week. Sounds like they are doing the triple-header
as well and skipping Knoxville for a second straight week.
*The racing has been so great this year! There have been 10
different guys to lead a race in six races! Bakker should have the track in
mint condition again next week for the best in the biz coming in!
*”Who wants vodka,” may be said a few times next weekend.
Also, if anyone wants to stop by for a DudeFan “Lunchbox” you are more than
welcomed at any of the three venues next week! Otherwise, 212 might be a
popular place both pre and post-race next Sunday. There could be anywhere from 1 to 3 race reports next week...
