Economic factors & more cause ASCS Southern California cancelations at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – June 3, 2011…Economic factors and other considerations have forced the cancelation of the ASCS So Cal headlined events at the Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway on June 18 and July 23.

The Saturday June 18 event has been canceled due to the economy and the fact that some of the teams will also be competing that night at the 40th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at the Skagit Speedway in Washington.

The Saturday July 23 event has been canceled for economic reasons and the sweltering heat that is seen in the Central Valley during the middle of the summer, which makes it difficult to draw large numbers of people to the races.

The October 8 ASCS So Cal Region date is still on and the Thunderbowl Raceway season will then end with the annual Trophy Cup on October 21 and 22.

You mean the 18th is canceled for Tommy to go to dirt cup? Its hot in the summer? Well theres a news flash. Its june and still raining, dont ya think you could have came up with a better excuse? So Cal series will never take off when you cancel the majority of the races at its best track. Also don't know why they even include the ASCS name on the schedule as they don't even follow ASCS rules.

I don't blame Faria for backing away from ASCS, but who's making up the excuses? Are they trying to say it's cooler in Hanford, Bakersfield and Chico than Tulare?

I think Steve saw what happened at Santa Maria and said no thanx. ASCS should at least be able to make a more accurate count of who intends to go where. Chowchilla is lovely in August.
