Bacon Victorious in NCRA Sprints/Claims Steve King Memorial Finale!
IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jetmore, Kansas – May 29, 2011 - Brady Bacon got the better of a late race challenge with Jack Dover to claim the drama filled 3rd Annual Steve King Memorial finale Sunday night as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products sprint car division wrapped up the Memorial holiday weekend at The Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kansas in a race that was co-sanctioned with the American Bank of Oklahoma sooner region.
Derek Drown of Amarillo, Texas and Brian Brown of Grain Valley, Missouri started on the front row for the thirty lap feature which saw fierce winds cause havoc with the track and drivers as well, causing drivers to use the bottom of the three-eighths mile oval. Brown would take the lead with Drown putting pressure throughout the event.
This coveted portion of real estate would cause some on track drama as Drown pressured Brown for the lead with ten laps to go. Contact was made causing both drivers to spin out of control in turn four.
Once cooler heads prevailed, Bacon and Jack Dover would pace the field on the restart with both drivers swapping the lead for the next four laps before Bacon took the lead for good with six laps to go. From there the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma youngster and the #99 Brady Bacon Racing/Tel-Star Communication sponsored, Wesmar powered Triple X chassis held on to claim his first ever NCRA victory and a $3000 paycheck.
Drown would cross the finish line third but for the second straight night, would be disqualified due to a rules infraction. This moved former series champion Garry Lee Maier into the third position in the final results aboard the famed Ochs Brothers #1x. Danny Wood of Norman, Oklahoma would come home fourth with series point's leader C.J. Johnson rounding out the top five.
Bacon, Colton Treharn, Dover, Brown and Tyler Velasquez all claimed heat race victories for the 38 car field with Ryan Roberts and Jon Freeman claiming victories in the two, twelve lap "B" features.
The next event for the NCRA of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products sprint car division will be part of a Father's Day NCRA spectacular as the tour will join forces with the series late model and modified divisions at the home of the series, 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas on Sunday night, June 19th.
