NCRA Modifieds Ready for Memorial Weekend Double!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – May 23, 2011 - With one race in the books for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products modified division, it is now time for a Memorial Day Holiday weekend double header as the tour is set for action this coming Saturday and Sunday night.

It all kicks off this coming Saturday night, May 28th, at the home of the NCRA, 81 Speedway, where former five time series champion Brian Franz of Halstead, Kansas continued his dominance of the three-eighths mile oval by claiming the victory in the series season opener at the track back on April 2nd.

From there the drivers will load up and head to "The Hummer," Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kansas for the tour first appearance since 2009 for the NCRA/USRA challenge night where the feature winner will earn $1000 and claim the annual "Dwaine Whitworth Memorial."

A notice to all modified teams, all cars must have 25 lbs. added and you must either be NCRA or USRA legal, no mixing of the rules.

As mentioned, Franz won the season opener and is your current series point's leader heading into the weekend by a scant 5 points over 2008 series champion Marc Hurd. Jim Johnson and Ryan McAninch are currently tied for the third position in the point standings, just ten points's back while Tyler Davis sits in the fifth position.

Positions six through tenth in the point standings are also expected, including Richard Wilson, Todd Doty, defending series champion Brian Powers, Shane Gerber, Mike Jarvis, Ross Shipman and Jason McGehee.

Touring regulars expected to make the trip include Casey McClaskey, Ted Tolin, Dan Powers, Nic Baalman and Shawn Langhover, Sr.. A strong 2011 rookie class also expected to compete include Carson McKeen, Cody Schniepp, Josh Lanterman, Kirby Robe and Shawn Langhover, Jr.

Sunday night's challenge night will see a strong field of track regulars compete against the NCRA modified faithful including former three time series champion John Allen of Chanute, series regular Ryan Witworth, Brian Brolin, Justin Folk, Jess Folk, Jr. and Scott Danials.

Saturday night's kickoff of the Memorial Day weekend of NCRA modified racing at 81 Speedway will see general admission tickets just $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-10 years of age. Gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing action set for 7:00 PM. 81 Speedway is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then .7 mile west on 77th St. in Park City. Sunday nights Dwaine Whitworth Memorial featuring the series against the tracks USRA modified regulars will see the gates open at 4:00 PM with race time set for 7:00 PM. Grandstand general admission for adults is just $12 with all kids ages 6-12 only $5 when accompanied by an adult. Humboldt Speedway is located off of US 169 to Humboldt exit, then .1 mile west, then .5 mile south, then .9 mile east. For more race information contact the track (620) 473-3694.
