I would avoid the old style tank...
Take the car to Wolfgang, Stevenson, Schnee, etc., and ask them to change the tank mounts so you can run the newer style tanks. Or you can purchase new tank brackets from a speed shop such as BR Motorsports, if you prefer to do it yourself.
It doesn't have to be a "new" tank, just the newer style. They are easier to get parts (top plate, bladder, shell, etc.) for and carry the fuel load further forward and help increase traction.
There are some new "clamp style" mounts on the market now, that are designed to work with the newer tanks. They may eliminate the need for welding. See Smiley's Race Products.
