An absolute classic with twists and turns aplenty for 15 360 sprint cars at the Petaluma adobe.

Chase Johnson fast time in the Johnny Franklin Muffler #24

Johnson draws a 10 inverting the top ten qualifiers through heat racing

Jeremy Burt leads early, but mechanical problems take him out

Trent Canales, who had passed Burt while the mechanical problems showed up takes the lead and flips while leading

Bradley Terrell (started 4th and coming back from a hand injury in his first race of 2011) takes over the point while Geoff Ensign is now 2nd (from 6th) and Chase Johnson (10th) and Alissa Geving (9th)

Terrell and Ensign catch lapped traffic and begin to start the slow burn as the laps melt away, Johnson spins and Geving joins the three car fray

a couple yellows later, we're at lap 23 and it's a two lap shootout (after the fact, we learn neither Terrell nor Ensign had any brakes)

on the restart, slidejob city for Ensign and he takes the lead.....until Terrell slides him back coming to the white flag...Ensign follows Terrell off of two and bonzais Terrell into three and four....drag race off of four ensues and it's every version you want of a photo finish, with Terrell winning it at the stripe by .008 seconds.

An unbelievable race by every definition.

I was at the race last night and all I can say is amazing. Good clean racing the last 5 laps with an great finish. Nice win for Terrell.

Late Models and Dwarfs were almost as good. Well worth the price of admission.

15 cars, #14m was in the pits, but did not race

Top 5 Qualifying (group format)

1. #24 Chase Johnson 13.175 2. #3x, Allisa Geving 13.246 3. #3F, Geoff Ensign 13.246 (Geving & Ensign same time, Geving gets the #2 spot as she posted her time before Ensign) 4. #10x, Roberto Kirby 13.277 5. #43, Bradley Terrell 13.382

Heat 1 - 5 cars, 8 laps (started)

1. #84, Kurt Simpson(1) 2. #10x, Kirby(3) 3. #24, Johnson(4) 4. #7c, Trevor Canales (2) 5. #96, Nick Ringo, Jr. (5)

Heat 2 - 5 cars, 8 laps (started)

1. #43, Terrell (3) 2. #3x, Geving(4) 3. #9n, Klint Simpson (2-DNF) 4. #24b, Brett Lay (5-DNF) 5. #77, Mike Benson (1-DNF) ****Benson flipped lap 1, Lay tommy tip over lap 2

Heat 3 - 4 cars, 6 laps

1. 5c, Trent Canales (3) 2. #2b, Jeremy Burt (2) 3. #3F, Ensign (4) 4. #21x, Marcus Hardina (1)

Featur Event - 14 cars - 25 laps (started)

The #9n of Kl. Simpson scheduled to start 3rd went to the back, took the green flag and pulled off. Not sure what happened. Spun in heay 2 and was sideswiped by Lay, so possibly this had something to do with pnly taking the green and going to the pits.

1. #43, Terrell (6) 2. #3F, Ensign (8) 3. #3x, Geving (7) 4. #84, Ku. Simpson (1) 5. #10x, Kirby (5) 6. #77, Benson (11) 7. #96, Ringo, Jr. (14) 8. #24b, Lay (12) 9. #7c, Tv. Canales (4) 10. #24, Johnson (10) 11. #21x, Hardina (9) 12. #2b, Burt (2-DNF) 13. #5c, Tr. Canales (3-DNF) 14. #9n, Kl. Simpson (13-DNF) - not 100% sure of finshing order pos. 7-13 as there was a battle royale between Terrell and Ensign for the lead that had my complete attention. The final 4 laps the 2 swapped the lead 6 times with slide jobs and outside passes at both ends of the track. An outstanding sprint car race that had the crowd on its feet with a photo finish. Very tough luck for Burt as an early race wheels banging incident forced him to give up the lead on lap 13 yellow with a flat RR. Track was bumpy and dry in spots, but still allowed for multple racing grooves. Nice to see the Canales brothers. The #5c of Trent Canales passed Burt for the lead with a low move down the backstretch on lap 6. The next lap Canales tried to go low in turn 3 to pass a lapper and slammed the inside berm ending his night. Burt's Petaluma luck has to change as has been fast every time he hits the track. Terrell made the most of his 2011 debut - a broken hand delayed the start of his season.
