I don't have a problem with Ventura charging for their stream, but 20 bucks! I think they would get more viewers with a more reasonable price.

Mr. Naylor must be taking lessons from Bernie Ecclestone.

I wouldn't pay 20 bucks to see a Ventura show live !!! unless it was a 410 show.

I wonder how they did. From what I saw they were pulling less than 200 viewers before they started charging an outrageous price. Speaking as one of the 174 that tuned in before, they lost me.

I wish them the best.

On one last sprint/midget combo show they were getting between 300-400 viewers. Last night there were 31 paid viewers.

And I would guess that a high % of them were friends and relatives of drivers.

Looking at this in a purely economic way, the made $620 by running this as a ppv. Though comments like "It's too bad the broadcast is diminished so much by the terrible announcing" will not help sell future broadcasts.

With the amateurish announcing, especially by that kid that Naylor insists on putting on the microphone, lack of Hi Def cameras. only one camera position to capture the race, among other things, its going to be a tough sell. Remember, last night was pretty much a premier show, with both sprints and midgets on the card. When the midgets are off the card, and dwarfs/mods are back on, they had better hope those classes bring in alot of friend/family members viewers.

I think if they charged $5, at least 1/2 of the almost 400 viewers that watched the last sprint midget show would have paid. 200 viewers at $5 is alot more than 30 at $20. Heres hoping that if they can build up the webcast profit, they use some of it to help make up for the purse cut that they sprung on all the competitors that race there.

By the way Buzzard is correct, ustream gets 1/2

That's a good question- I think it really depends on the quality of the broadcast. I know that racing fans have been big time spoiled by getting free streams. The free streams are ok for working the bugs out and getting feedback, but ultimately, there should be some sort of up front communication that when the R&D is done, that there will be a season subscription or a ppv price.

For the Ventura case, I believe $5 would have been a good starting point- based on the quality of the feed. I think the price would be palatable to many more viewers, and it would probably had made more money. Then as features- quality are added in future seasons, the price could be raised accordingly.

Can't wait to check out one of the PAS live feeds in the future, hopefully I'll catch one on a night I'm not at the track.

So what does Ustream get on a free live feed??

I would say $7.95 is a fair price......at Ventura I wouldn't pay a dollar, but that's me and I can't stand Naylor's announcing or the kids. Plus he runs to many damn divisions. Knoxville charges $9.99 and their coverage is unbelivable. 10 times better then dirtvisions. They seem to get a good amount of traffic for their races.
Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!

Some good and thoughtful reply's about this deal, and it only makes me wonder even more about what the heck they were thinking.

It's been said, so I might as well say it too... If I was undecided on if I'd pay a more reasonable amount to watch their stream, Naylors announcing could very well make that decision for me.

OUCH!

And I'd say $5.00 is the absolute top of what it is worth if it is the same show they were running for free the week before. Meaning with Naylor's and the kid's announcing, the one location camera, and go karts and taxicabs. $2.95 for that show. And at that I would still probably watch a free MMA show.
