Does anyone remember wing hats? Some friends came home with hats with a real small aluminum wing on them they bought at knoxville @early eighties or so. I was hoping someone out there still has one and can post some pix of them so i can show them to my son. thanx all...

I used to have one of those winged hats got it in 1998, but they were made from Lexan. it melted in the car on a hot day. Can't find them anymore.

Found this picture on Google...I remember seeing these hats being sold at the Nationals in the 90s.

Was this more what you were asking about? I'm definitely no photographer, but this is one of the Steve Kinser hats our Dad boughtformy brother and me back at the Nationals about 1984-87, not exactly sure-I was about 7-9 years old back then. Hope these help.

The original wing hats were made by Ricky Weld and Steve Stealey in 1980. Wing was alum and pop riveted to ball hats. I still have the 3rd one made.

I still have the original wing but I took it off the ball cap and remounted it on an open faced helmet. I used the helmet at a dirt go kart race and was disqualified for cheating. They considered it an unfair advantage. I had a good laugh at the officals albeit with a sore neck. The sonofabitch grabbed some air and damned near pulled my head off.

The only time I ever used a wing!

That's hilarious-I guess it's safer to run non-wing helmets! I can't believe they DQ'd you for that- must have been a strict dirt go-cart sanctioning body!!

Kind Thankyou's in any case.

Tom.
