FLOCK SEEKS VICTORY #53 SATURDAY AT VENTURA; STREETER GRABS LATE VICTORY AT KINGS SPEEDWAY
Robby Flock of Murietta, Calif. will try again for his career USAC Western Midget Series triumph #53 Saturday when the series returns to the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.
Flock nearly got #53 last Saturday at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. but flipped while leading three laps from the checkered flag. Nevertheless, he officially finished fourth at Hanford and is ninth in the latest series point standings chasing a possible fifth series driving title.
Robby has three previous Ventura victories and could become the sixth different race winner in as many 2007 series events. Troy Rutherford was the surprise race winner when the series comoeted at the 1/5-mile dirt oval April 7.
Matt Streeter of Salt Lake City, Utah became the fifth winner in five events this year as he took the lead when Flock flipped and raced to victory at Hanford. Trailing Streeter at the flag were Matt Mitchell, Shannon McQueen, Flock and Johnny Rodriguez. Mitchell led the first nine laps and Flock led the next eight before Streeter’s paced the final three.
Scott Pierovich continues to lead the 2007 standings, eight ahead of defending champion Jerome Rodela going into Ventura. Pierovich was 14th and Rodela sixth at Hanford.
