HARTFORD, S.D. (May 21) – Hoping that the third time will be a charm, the Loren Barstad Memorial Race for IMCA Sprint Cars has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 28 at I-90 Speedway.
Inclement weather forced postponement of the $1,200 to win, minimum $200 to start feature from May 14 and again from May 21.
Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.
More information is posted on the www.i90speedway.com website.

Kinda sucks that 2 tracks 100 miles, or a hour and a half apart compete on the same nite for the same sprint cars. JMO.

I actually would of liked to have seen this race run on Friday June 24th w/the ASCS Midwest regional show @ I-90.
Loren's cars also competed at various tracks throughout the midwest over the years. So it would have been nice to have had cars come in from Jackson, Minneapolis, Lincoln/Omaha, & possibly Knoxville too.

That would have been a heckuva show last Saturday May 21 Ron had we been able to run. A very strong field of 31 sprints in the pits, four heats, a B Main and A Main would have made for a fun night. Darn Mother Nature would not allow us to race though. I walked around the pits ahead of time looking at the cars, then marked down the heat race lineups, and watched hot laps. After that is was pretty much watch the sky and wait for the inevitable. The trip back home was interesting as I dodged thunderstorms and severe weather. Oh well, an eventful Saturday afternoon and evening despite getting rained out.

I was headed out to I90 around 5:30 also. But was watching the weather radar on my computer & noticed thunderstorms developing west of Hartford so I decided to stay home.
It would have been a really good show. Too bad it was rained out. Hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm this Saturday. Have a good show with the UMSS up at Rice Lake this weekend Greg.
Looking forward to the July shows when I come up to Elko Speedway w/the IRA Sprint cars.

I have always wondered that same thing. You'd think there would be at least one weekly Sprint program somewhere around the Cities that could field 25 cars like a lot of the Late Model and Modified tracks do. It really seems like an uphill battle to get anything started and build it up to that point. Of course now with the economy the way it is and gas prices I think we'll see a downward trend before they go up again.
I think the 31 cars out at Hartford is a reflection of a couple generations of Sprints running at several tracks in that area. When all is said and done you can't beat the tradition. Kind of the same sort of deal as the Cedar Lake Late Model tradition or Deer Creek area Modified traditions.

Hartford has averaged roughly 22 - 26 sprint cars just on a regular Saturday night show the past 3 years, considering the fact that it pays only $600 dollars to win. $125 to start. And for quite a number of the drivers, Saturday is the only night of the week that they compete.
It also helps when the speedway has no walls except for the front straightaway of course, which helps if something mechanically were to break on the sprint car.

It is great to hear about a area that is doing well with the sprints.. I remember when Cedar Lake had 20 to 25 at one time.

Yes, that was last fall when Cedar Lake had 26 UMSS cars at the Jerry Richert Memorial.
