I started 8th in heat 1 and finished 2nd, after the features were posted Kyle Nelson comes to me and said "They must have you in the wrong spot because I started 1st and finished 1st, and they have me starting 5th and your starting 9th" He had 0 passing points and finished 1 position ahead of me and starts 4 spots ahead of me doesn't sound correct. I asked everyone with a Lawton Speedway shirt on and nobody could tell me the point structure, only answer I got was that's where you start. Which is fine if it is correct just show me how you figured it!!! I dont think anyone drove from the back and won in the limiteds so I should have had the most passing points out of all the limiteds and start 9th? If anyone knows how many points for your finishing position and how many for each car passed please post the info here, Thanks

If the class runs a Trophy Dash, an additional 40 points could be earned by a driver sweeping the heat, dash and A. All drivers who show up at the track and attempt to race receive 50 points.

Yah if u started 8th and ran 2nd u got screwed . The positions up front start out with so many points and tapers off towards the rear , that's the way Ive always k own it to be . I started right beside u but I started 2nd and ran 2nd so I figured on being back there , next time catch Todd Ballard he runs the show he's the one at the lineup board lettin the cars out on the track .
winners dont cry when they lose , they go back to the
drawing board and come back for round 2 !

if they did not use passing points-------->EPIC FAIL!!!!

Shawn - so basically they threw you in 10th because you were 2nd in your heat and there were 5 heats. so 1-5 was heat winners.....6-10 were 2nd place finishers and so on??? Just seems to me a strange and sub par way to score a weekly opener with an open draw and stacked heat races....

idk. I figured they woulda used passing points. all weekly openers should use passing points (and finishing points - i.e. ascs format) - and thereafter invert starts based on points/point averages....

either way it kind of sucks that the dude that opened this thread couldnt even get a real answer.

I personally didnt notice - but I wasn't paying too much attention to it either. I thought Shawn started about right - figured maybe between 5 heats there was a few that made 6th to 3rd run or something. I could see start and finish 2nd in heat translating to mid pack of the feature of a mid 30 count field. Figured Dusty Buntin starting pole was justified as well - he came from what was it - 3rd row? and won....so in passing points that would pretty well do it. Just based off where Shawn and Dusty started....I figured they were doing passing points....but mod10g very correctly calls it into question.

Now that you say it, i dont think they used passing points, cause we started 7th in the 5th and last heat, and finished 3rd and we started 15th,

Yea I asked Todd and he checked the line up again and said that's where you start but couldn't't tell me why or the system being used to figure it. I thought I should have started on or near the front row for the feature, nothing I can do about it now but I would still like to know how it is figured encase they use the same system for the winter nationals or other special race!!!

wouldn't Todd Ballard have had that info relayed to him by scorers?

I don't know for sure - but I would think if he's down in turn 4 workin staging....he's not coming up with those line ups - its also why you'd get a "it is what it is" type answer. It's kind of understandable that he doesn't specifically have the info behind it....

like any track its probably just relayed down to him. The only place anyone could have gotten the goods was likely the booth.

Yea he told me I would have to wait until after the race was over and talk to the ladies in the tower but I got over to the pay window a little after Midnight and the sprints were still running and I was ready to get the 2 hour drive home over with so I didn't wait around, besides nothing was going to get changed at that point so I figured someone my be able to answer my question on here. If not I find out next Sat.

Mod 10G, I have raced in Lawton since 1987 and I have often asked the same question, the answer I was given every time was you get finishing points for where you finish and then you get points for every car you pass and who has the most points is on the pole and on back. I have tried to figure out the same thing you are questioning for many years because it has happened to me on many occassions as well where the pole car of the heat wins and the second place car came from dead in the field, only makes sense that the second place car in this instance should have more points. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the point difference between first and second on back is to big for any one to pass enough cars to have more points than the pole setting winner.

I also looked the video from thriiler and paused the race and wrote down all the cars I could figure out, which was the first 6 rows, and the first 6 cars where all heat winners with the outside polesitter being a second place car the next 3 rows where all 2 & 3 place cars with the 2 place cars in front of the 3 place cars, the only exception to that was the 22 car wich is not even on the finish order in the heats, but I talked to him I am sure he told me he finished 3 place.

I hope that answers your ? even though it still really does not make sense to me.

I got a phone call from the speedway and was told that you get 59 points for first and about a 3 point split all the way down, you then get 1.5 points per car passed and are lined up by total points! Unless you are late and miss the draw like I did! The you only get finishing points and do not get passing points! So that explains it, don't be late or get stopped at the OHP check point or you will miss out on passing points!!! I would like to thank the lady that called and explained it to me, lots of other people would have just brushed me off!!! So thank you for your time.

ah cool. it was ascs format. good deal - hope all the tracks have done that for their weekly openers - not sure how else you could kick it off.
