It was good to see real non-wing sprint cars going around the track last night. I was told that the driver of the 95 car was just thrilled. It will take alittle bit for these new guy's to get used to the difference in what they used to drive, but it will be fun watch their progress over the summer. Can't wait to see 10-12 non winged cars running, plus the winged cars.
Andy Jones really looked good last night, he said he like the new car.
Cody was fast even with the throttle sticking.
Should be a good year for sprint car fans

I think Andy is going to surprise some of the Sprint Car guys that aren't familiar with what he did in the A Mods. He was winning Features in those cars against some pretty good competition. Now that he's got a standard car instead of that coil over he should be able to get a handle on the setup.

But like Andy told me Thursday night, he just needs to stop driving it like a modified, that will come in time. He's going to be good.

I'm excited for the 2011 season Chuck, as the UMSS is generating interest in both the Traditional Sprints and the Winged Sprints. 2011 will be a fun year to watch the TSCS drivers who participate during the inaugural season, especially those who have not driven sprint cars before. Watching their progress throughout the season will be entertaining and hopefully a positive experience for all involved. More cars will show up during the course of the season, and assuming everything goes well, several more cars will appear next year and in years after that. Naturally that will require an established purse as the series grows and expands, but I think Ron and crew approached it in a logical manner this year in setting up the initial season to be more like an exhibition-type of deal in order to introduce, or in some cases, reintroduce non-winged open wheel sprint car racing here in our area.
I have visited with several drivers/owners recently who have indicated they are making plans to return to sprint car racing in either the winged or non-winged cars. That is great news by itself, but what is equally pleasing is the fact that we are generating interest in sprint car racing from outside the open wheel fraternity. That is awesome, as we continue to grow the sport around the Twin City metro area and expanding outward from there too. Hopefully the weather will cooperate on April 30 and the UMSS can kick off its 2011 season at CLS in both divisions. I am also hopeful that the micro sprints will grow in the upcoming years, especially once they have a "home" track following the sale of Kopellah Speedway.

For sure Stan, Andy is going to be fast in 2011, but he still needs to gain plenty more experience in the sprint cars. Like Chuck said, Andy also told me last year even that he needs to not drive the car like a modified and get more comfortable with driving it like a sprint car should be driven. That will come with seat time and laps, as that young kid has talent and can definitely adapt. It's going to be an exciting season Stan, as several young up and coming drivers get their first experience in the sprint cars or continue to learn and grow as drivers in the sprint car ranks. The sport needs to generate new drivers, and I believe that is something all of those involved with the UMSS from Joe and Ron on down are focusing heavily on. It is great to have a pool of awesome and talented people to help guide and provide veteran knowledge to the younger generation (like Joe and Chuck and many others). Put away some gas money for 2011 Stan, as you won't want to miss out by sitting in a bubble bath sipping herbal tea. :-)
PS: I'll make sure you get to the races Stan!

I think these non wing sprint cars are going to be a lot of fun. Even though I was never really able to get into the throttle, every now and then I could feel how much acceleration it is going to have and I believe there will be plenty to get these cars sliding sideways through the corners. Either that or it is the very worn out tires we have right now. Gonna need some better used tires before the opener at CLS so if anyone has any around the cities let me know, especially a RR. Sounds like our fuel pressure issues were indeed a faulty brand new regulator and we should be good to go for the next practice night and the opener. Might take us "taxi" drivers awhile to get the hang of it but hopefully before long we will be able to keep up with the veterans that have been driving these things before.

Ron Olson and Chad Patterson have some good used tires. I'm sure there are other teams that have tires also. It won't take you guy's long and you will be sliding thru those corners.

Ron Olson's team is based right out of Stillwater Jeff, so not far from your home base.
It's going to be fun watching all of the first-year non-winged sprint car drivers learn and improve as the season unfolds. Hopefully everything goes well in year #1.

Yep, went up to Ron's a couple weeks ago and got some stuff and talked awhile. Got a couple tires from Chad that won't work on his car so going to get those tonight. Travis is going to practice at Ogilvie friday if they can have it and then will be back out to CLS for practice and racing next week. Kevin is really excited to get going, like watching a kid in a candy store.
