Thursday, May 10, 2007 A win seemed inevitable for J.J. Yeley in the No. 14 USAC Silver Crown machine at Darlington Raceway on Thursday evening. After blitzing the field in practice and winning the pole, Yeley pushed out to a near half-lap lead over second place in the early going of the 50-lap event.
A caution for debris bunched the field at Lap 22, but once the race resumed, Yeley immediately marched out to a comfortable lead. But seven laps later, something in the right-front broke, and Yeley's night was finished prematurely. "It's really disappointing," explained Yeley. "It was obvious that everyone else was fighting for second place tonight. We had a great car, and I want to thank George Snider and everyone on the A.J. Foyt Racing Team for the opportunity tonight. I thought we had one."
Yeley will look to rebound at Darlington in Friday night's NASCAR Busch Series race and Saturday night in the Nextel Cup Series race. Be sure to catch all of the action!
