I was planning on going to the Calistoga USAC race over labor day and heading up to Chico the following week for the Gold Cup. I was wondering if anyone can recommend an affordable place to stay for these two tracks.
Any suggestions on things to do between the races?
Is it hard to get tickets for either of these two events?
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions for these two events.

Calistoga might be a tough call over Labor Day - it's a tourist town. Try Petaluma or Napa, about 25 miles away....and there's not a lot of hotels there, anyway.
Lots of rooms in Chico, but the Gold Cup does draw quite a crowd....

all due respect, but no to Petaluma since it's like 40 miles from Petaluma to Calistoga. Try Santa Rosa if you must go all the way back to the 101 or even Windsor, which is just North of Santa Rosa and still off of the 101. There's a new Best Western or Holiday Inn just opened there off of the 101 and right next to a bowling alley, plus downtown Windsor is pretty touristy lately due to the shops and stuff. Petaluma to Calistoga is more like 40 miles. Santa Rosa/Windsor is like 20.
Either of those cities gives you a pretty scenic ride to Calistoga via Mark West Springs Road and takes you past Safari West (safari tour like in Africa with actual animals, pretty pricey) the Petrified Forest and a couple wineries on the way to boot if you want to make a day of it.

In Chico, try the Oxford Suites, Holiday Inn, Marriotts...
