Drift HD170 In-Car cams from Dirt Dog TV cover the 2011 Season Opener for the RACE Saver Sprints at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, TX last Saturday. Watch it in 720p HD:

Five reds in the Feature showed that several drivers still had to brush off some winter rust.

For you videographers out there... yes, this clip could be a little smoother because it was shot at 30fps but rendered at 24fps to save file size and upload time. The new Drift HD170 Stealth camera is capable of 60fps for great slow motion.

Thinking about getting an in-car camera?

In-car video can help you get a potential sponsor excited about your team, track or series and generate exposure on the web! After 18 months of track testing different models, we now use and recommend the Drift Innovation HD170 over the Go-Pro and Contour brands. (Unless you are filming underwater... then definitely get a Go Pro!) For about the same price as the other two, we find that the Drift HD170 is the hands down winner for reliability, battery life, picture and audio quality and the HD170 has handy features like a view screen to aim and review your shots, a rotating lens to accommodate any mounting angle and a remote on/off for when the camera is out of reach. Plus one remote can control multiple cameras.

Here is a fair and unbiased chart to compare the features of all three brands:

The only drawback to all three brands is that they all use a light sensor that is susceptible to engine vibration from smaller, hard mounted motors like midgets and mini-sprints. We found that using a sliced, 3" length of soft, radiator hose around the car frame (in between the camera mount and chassis tube) worked great as a vibration dampener. The only reasonably priced, broadcast quality in-car camera we found that is NOT affected by vibration is the MotoCam ShockBox for about $800US. MotoCam also offers 2 & 4 camera systems that record to one DVR for $1,399US and $1,999US.

We have not been paid for this endorsement, it's just our opinion after lots of trial and error. When we posted our positive review on the Drift Innovation Facebook page, they offered us a discount for our DDTV FB fans as a thank you. Cool huh? Have fun makin' movies!!
