By: Florida Sprint Car Fans

Our winter of turmoil and unrest is finally coming to an end as sprint cars roar back to life and those of us that love them so shun our kin, call in sick to work and do nothing but wander from track to track for the month of February, chasing the dragon.

Our first update is for Citrus County Speedway, which is a go for this Saturday. We’ve talked to this weekend’s promoter of the “Citrus County Sprints” Tony Careeno, who has been making phone calls, kissing babies, having dinner meetings, you name it and has drummed up a purse of $7,000 not counting the money from tire sales at the track that will be kicked in by Steele Performance. So far 15 cars are confirmed for this weekend’s race, and a small army of supporters have helped build up the purse on Tony’s end.

Now, since we are FloridaSprintCarFANS.com and started this website as fans sitting in the stands, we would encourage every man, woman and child that is a fan of pavement sprint car racing to buy a ticket and sit in the stands at Citrus County Speedway this weekend, because you can be damn sure everyone is watching the gate for this weekend to see if pavement sprint cars can make tracks money. Here is a godawful song to smarten you up.

And now the big moment 410 dirt sprint car fans have been waiting for – Ocala Speedway! Mike Peters has been hard at work prepping the track for the sprinters and we’re keeping an eye on Screven Motor Speedway up in Georgia to see who turns up because logically those drivers will mosey on down to Ocala shortly thereafter, but most everyone we named dropped previously (like “The Pumpkin” above) seems to be en route. Of note, one of this website’s favorites Terry McCarl picked himself up a bunch of Florida sponsors for his trip – Hungry Howie’s Pizza, BubbaQue’s and Frubob Fruit Floats.

The action gets started Thursday night with practice at Ocala Speedway, but Screven has their race that night, so we’re not sure how many will turn up. Friday should be hot and heavy, especially in practice, and that’s why your webmaster is ditching work to get up their early. Last year’s battle between Cale Conley and Brad Sweet that gifted Danny “The Dude” Lasoski the win was the bomb.

And the 2011 Top Gun Sprint Series official schedule has been released!

In theory, tomorrow we’ll have our latest podcast posted so you have something to listen to on the drive to the tracks this weekend. Be warned that it ran quite long as usual, but we had some very entertaining segments such as “Dating Advice with Tyler Godwin,” and also our year-end JBT Awards for our “best of” categories. It’s also possible that we racked up three pitchers of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA during the podcast…
