Jackie was the baddest of the bad when I was a kid, he came along when 70% of the races were won by Ray Crawford or Emmett Hahn and would consistantly beat them.

Chances are, I was at all of the races shown early on, that's where and who I cut my "racing teeth" on. Matter of fact, I WAS at the race shown with him edging out Emmett Hahn at the checkers in the Indy roadster. That was his "homecoming" when he returned to his roots one night after leaving Tulsa to go USAC racing.

The clip at 00:56, was that the "21 flip crash" at Terre Haute????

IMO....And I don't say this lightly, but YOU deserve at LEAST a nomination into the Sprint Car HOF as "Media Member of the Year". For you to take YOUR own time, for no pay, to not only preserve a valuable part of racing history, but to also bring the past back, sharing with those who are too young to remember and bringing on a flood of memories to those of us who were lucky enough to witness it first hand, well, not to take away from the people nominated in recent times, but to me, what you are doing is MUCH more noteworthy for a nomination than the recent crop of nominees.

Awesome, awesome compilation Brian, it is very much appreciated.

Okay, now for some "Tulsa Trivia".

Who is in the 007 car at the start of the video? HINT: "Jolly" C_ _ _ _ _ _ W_ _ _ _

I'm just a lucky stiff that gets to put this stuff up. I shy away from too much credit because I don't want to lose focus. My reward and pay is when i can go to sleep somewhat happy with what I put in, even if I don't understand what I'm doing sometimes. Yes, even I stand back sometimes and go "What the?!.

When I go into a room that is loaded with Legends, car owners, fans that were there, I get HUMBLED REAL QUICK. What you and I see on the screen are the rock stars, not me.

These are the people you need to thank- Shane Carson (without his input, none of this could have been this good! Mar-Car deserves any good credit the world wishes to give to me). David Smith Jr (What a collection you have yet to see all of!). John Stewart, Stanley Cothran, MANY, MANY OF YOU WHOM I HAVE LIFTED PICTURES FROM--and had patience with me when I didn't have the time to stop and give credit---sincerely I thank you for putting up with my weird ways. There are more people that have contributed, but my braincells are tired at this moment.

And I also thank Dick Wallen and the unknown film guys out there for not shutting me down.

This party ain't over yet, I still have to find or put together the "perfect" video. Gonna be awhile............

I remember 1 year when the last of the guardrail was there coming out of 4, Some fellow took out a section of it & damn near ripping the whole pole out as well. Early 70's I believe.

This is my favorite memory of Jackie, taken at Fairgrounds Speedway (state fair speedway) in Oklahoma City. I am the goofey kid on the left.

It's okay to be humble around the greats you have been working with to get us these videos and photos. The thing is, is that we all know that most racers aren't the "technical" type of person who would ever bounce these old tapes and reels to digital media and would never make it out of the shoe box in the closet without someone like yourself who takes the time to do this. You time is VERY much appreciated.

Your still goofy but a good guy.

I do not believe that the #007 at the start of the video is Charlie Wells. This photo is fprobably from the 1960"s and Charlie was driving in the 6-cylinder modified division, not the Super Modifieds during this time. Looking closely at the picture, I see that Sherrill Paint & Body is a sponsor. I am betting that the driver is Len Sherrill. His grandson is Matt Sherrill, who has raced at the Tulsa Shootout and Chili Bowl in recent years. Any Tulsa old-timers agree with me?

I know this thread is very old, but we're talking ancient history here, so I'm gonna reply. You guys missed the whole point of who's in that 007 super-modified. Its Jackie Howerton. That was his first ride, his rookie season, in 1966. The #25 is Al Lemmons in the Del Torrence car. The beautiful blue and silver 007 was owned by Len Sherrill and, I understood, built by Jackie. You'll note that the car doesn't appear to have a radiator because it was in the rear of the sedan behind the driver. The next season, Len painted the car pearl white and gold, replaced the V8 with a 6-cyl Chevy and drove it himself in the modified division as #31.

Jackie in that ornage/tellow 1300 was the coolest of the cool to this budding horsepower lover back in the day.
